Are the handles intact both sides & without cracks?

Using my 10X Power Magnifying lens with direct light from a flashlight, I can see a teeeny weeny hairline crack.

It's amazing what kind of shape this knife is in.

Wish I was talented enough to repair the blades, what a treat this knife could be!

Those both say CUTLERY CO. on the second line of the stamp?

Tom Williams told me they never used the word “CUTLERY” on tang stamps after WWII. And from what you have said both knives are 3-line stamps instead of the normal 4-line stamp used during and prior to WWII.

Do either of those knives have a different tang stamp on the secondary blade?
Perhaps an arched first line like this?

If so that knife is made around WWI.

If they are just the 3-line stamps with “CUTLERY CO.” on the second line, they are still pre-WWII, I am just not sure where on the time line.

Nice to have some examples of the old tang stamps!

Scott, I don't think the beautiful handles on your knife are bone. It's really hard to tell because the handles are so worn but I think yours and for sure the handles on travman's knife are stag.

Look at the handles on travman's knife. There are convolutions that would be very difficult to replicate by hand or machine. To me, your knife appears to be a sister to the one travman has - frame shape, handle color, handle pin pattern and guessing from just pictures, handle material. Studying your handles, there appear to be convolutions remaining that aren't man made. I could be wrong. I have been before, but I've also been the lone voice crying in the wilderness when I'm pretty sure I was right.

Thanks for pointing that out Jerry. It does look more like stag than bone. Good Lord knows I don't know squat-o-rama!

Dale, Yes sir second line reads: CUTLERY CO.
The tang stamp on the second blade appears to be the same.

I have been trying to find examples of 3-line Camillus Tang stamps that use the word "CUTLERY” in the stamp. That marks them as pre-WWII, according to Tom Williams (Camillus Company Historian), and I think there are more examples of them than the 2 or 3 common ones.


I am still researching these for a future article in our club newsletter (OKCA).

If you have examples of 3-line Camillus tang stamps with the work “CUTLERY” in there (I have only seen the word on the second line) I would like to see what you have. Please show the stamps on all blades of possible. If the stamps are different it is of special intrest to me as well.

Dale the secondary blade is a 4 liner with USA at the bottom
i do have some more 3 line stamps that i can post later
