Hello from South Africa

Post by smokepole »

Hello Everyone,

My real name is Willem O'Kelly and I hail from South Africa - the Great Karoo region to be exact. I have been a member here for a few months but haven't been that active, other than to do quite a bit of reading. Tons of good info here and lots of nice people, so I'd like to get a little more active - got a million questions, on especially the traditional folders - a style I have always liked but never researched much.
I just love knives - can't call myself a serious collector because I tend to buy what I like, rather than concentrate on one specific theme/brand/style etc. But I do collect on a small scale - and I make knives too - so often a purchase would be more to have a closer look at a specific design than to just collect.

Thank you all for this great site and I hope to be making a meaningful contribution here in the future.

Welcome William, you are correct in stating that there is a wealth of information, friendly people and talent on this thread.

The knife that you are showing as avatar, what is it? Did you make it? It looks exremely nice.

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome!

Pigsticker, Mark, I will post up some pics in good time - just need to find my feet a little.

Dr_Magoo - the avatar is a skinner I made from an old circular saw blade - probably M2 or some such - with African Black Wood handles and Warthog bolsters - I am glad you like it - here's a few more pics:
