That "thing" it's on is called a septarian nodule.
Here's a pic of the whole thing with some other junk stacked on it.


I found it in the channel of Bear Creek which runs through DFW airport. I used to fish in that creek until my employer, TXDOT, screwed it up by channelizing it. The bastards. LOL

I'll have to wait til we get a BIG rain and it undoes everything they did to it before it'll be worth fishing in it again.

Being of a curious nature, I Googled "septarian nodule". Also called "concretions" they come in sizes so small you need a magnifying glass to see them, all the way up to 10' across. Some, as seen here https://www.google.com/search?q=septari ... 0gG4qJG2BA , are quite beautiful.

I thought it was a fossilized sand bar stag turd when I saw it laying on a sand bar.

I had three that were complete, but two of them have gotten broken. They are kind of fragile it seems.

What's the pointy hole-maker thing called on this knife, and do you find it useful
rather than a smaller pen blade? I suppose it was used to make holes in leather harnesses but
since we don't use harnesses much nowadays, what do you guys use it for?

They are called a leather punch. The only use I have for them is to add holes to my belt.

I finally got a reason to buy a harness jack.
Now to look for a four line Camillus.
I like the new GEC equal end ones though. Camillus probably have different handles.

That's what I thought when I saw it,lovely bone on an H Boker pattern I have not seen much of. I suspect it is somewhat obscure,except for Charlie C.Of course you know I have blinders on most of the time.

Nice knife Mike. I spotted one of those on ebay a few years ago and inquired about it with AAPK member "Upnorth", the harness jack guru, who told me it was made by Case.

Thanks guys, the Case pattern # for this one is 62074 1/2 , according to Upnorth GEC 66 frame is identical in size
