Re: Antique Stag Handled Tobacco Knife
It is a late 19th or early 20th century carving knife that has been reshaped.
It was not shaped this way when sold new.
The story the seller gave may sound good, but it does not mean very much

Very interesting piece. Sure looks a lot different from the tobacco knives I used back in the day.
Do you know anything about how it was utilized ?

It looks to be a re-shaped carving knife to me.The giveaway is the stag handle and the fancy ferrule. Most of the so-called tobacco knives I have seen were half congress knives and usually marked,"Finzer's(or some other name)Tobacco Knife" stamped into the blade.I don't recall ever seeing a fixed blade tobacco knife.

I like it also cause it's old.
Whether or not it's a tobacco knife wouldn't matter to me.
Looks sort of like a table or butter knife.
I'd wash it up and use it to spread whatever on my bread.
For 15 bucks, I would of bought it too.
good luck with it.
