Remington R1613 (old one)

I recently picked one of these up. That seems to be in good shape, no cracks or chips. My question is In Ron Stewarts book, they seem to command a hefty price. Mine is the one with the circle shield. I have only seen pictures thus far, however the bolsters appear not to have the small series of lines shown. However I cannot find reference to any other knife with this designation except the bullet remake. Have I missed something????

I think that Steward is way overpriced on the 1613. Voyles list the 1613 in good condtion at $200, which is much more realistic. By most accounts the 1613 is considered a bullet knife, but most collectors don't seem to follow that belief. They want a horizontal bullet, not a headstamp. I checked my 1613's and they all had the lines across the bolsters. I also checked several knife books as well as some old Remington catalogs and they also showed the lines. But the 953 is the same knife, without a shield, and they all showed it with the lines too, however I have one in my collection that does not have the lines and it is authentic. I'd guess that during production if they ran low on bolsters they might "borrow" some from a different pattern run. That could explain why most have the lines, but a few don't.

I received this knife on Christmas morning from the post office, beautiful piece, seems that everything is correct. The blade has been cleaned with scotch bright. I consider myself very lucky to have have found it. Thanks for the info.
