Beautiful knives Feller's!! ::groove::

.
Johnny what constitutes a cotton sampler?
This is my best definition that I can come up with of a "Cotton Sampler".. ::nod::
These knives were used to remove samples of cotton from bales for classification purposes....usually having a long shank or tang to go deep into the bales.

garddogg56...I hope this helps..BTW , I have only seen 2 types..the rounded version and the squared version. :D

So far..no one has posted a pic of a vintage one. :( ...I'm sure someone will soon. ::tu::

Beautiful knives, guys. ::tu:: I have been wanting a Cotton Sampler for several years - looking for an older one.

I bid on this one the other night, but didn't win it. I am not a Schatt & Morgan expert - I am assuming this one was the real deal? These old ones don't show up on e-bay very often.

And here we have it - an authentic, vintage cotton sampler - an old Kutmaster, in excellent shape except for some blade wobble. The wobble makes me think this was actually used for sampling cotton, since the motion of coring out a plug from a cotton bale would put a lot of sideways stress on a blade. To my amazement, I was the only bidder on this ebay knife, and got it for $9.99 plus shipping!

I saw that. I almost bid on it but I thought it was a rope knife. Guess I should learn to pay a little closer attention. Good buy.
