New York Cutlery Co. display knife

Post by knife-nut »

I took my wife to Kansas City for a doll show a while back, and went to a doll museum. In one of the rooms hanging from the door jam was this old knife. It was made entirely from wood and painted. It looks to be a old display knife that was hung from a store window. It was about 30 inches long. I begged and pleaded for a while but they would'nt sell it. They did'nt have any information about it either. Sure wish it could talk and tell it's story. Thought maybe someone might know a little more about it.

Wayyyyy Coooool ::tu:: ::tu::

If anyone one would know about it Rich Langston would be the guy to talk to. He is over in the new Knife Lore forum here at AAPK. Rich is an authority (probably THE authority) on knives from the Hudson River Valley. His name in AAPK is lt632ret.

Post this in the Knife Lore forum and I am sure he would be able to tell you about it.

New York Cutlery

Post by galvanic1882 »

Hi, I think it was from the old Schatt & Morgan company. They used it around 1896-1897. It was ajobbing company till they moved to Gowanda, NY. I have a friend that has a framed shadow box from the company and it has a knife that is not made but all the parts are there to show what went into the making of the knives. I also have found blades marked New York Cutlery in a batch of blades that came from the Canastota factory. I think they made some of their knives back than.
