That might be on a knife forum but at gun shows they have been selling good - good enough for me to make an investment in them - at the gun shows this past few months if it's much over 50 bucks it doesn't sell - I'll never forget way back in about 1979 or so - i was selling new chevy's for a living in Spokane Washington - a bunch of us was at the pub one night & one of the guys said that the Toyoto Dealer sold 200 new Toyoto's that month - My manger said - Toyota is just a fad - they will go away - - tom

all imports - Marbles & Rough Rider - I have been testing them at the gun shows & they have been selling for me - there at a price point that none knife people will pay for a knife - I have sold a dozen or more to some of my old clients also - There not for everyone but then again some folks won't shop at WalMart either - to each their own - tom

You are right Tom, I've seen guys at Gun Shows buyin them 5 at a time. They don't mind in these bad economic times, ploppin down $10 or even $20 for one. I don't get it personally but that's the way it is alright, I've seen it first hand.

i think it was a completly different situation with the japenese,when those companies came here,there products where mostly very good,and they where different from our products, because they could be held accoutable if there products were faulty,this chinese junk is just copies of other peoples products cheapened up and force fed to american people by greedy american middlemen,and when there faulty products do fail youve got no recourse because the chinese govt isnt gonna punish themeselves because under the communist rule they technically own the factory i do my very best to buy nothing made in china and believe that oune you stoop to selling there products your just adding to the problems we have imho,

I think your memory has failed you (happens to all of us at one time or another). When Japanese imports first hit these shores, they were considered crap. All of them. Toys - knives - household goods - tools and cars. The one lone exception was their motorcycles. Honda, Datsun and Toyota cars were a real POS. The U.S. made cars were nothing to brag about back then but the Japanese cars failed mechanically and rusted away much earlier than American made cars. They were cheap to buy and cheaply made.

That's the way I remember it.

I hate to see the Pacific rim imports mentioned because it seems to always turn political, then we forget what sets AAPK apart from the slug-fest forums.

I'm weary of the anti Chinese rants that continually erupt here. Tom Hudson has a right to embelish and sell any knife he wishes to, and nobody is being forced to buy his products or any other products from China or elsewhere. Like them or not, Chinese made knives are a part of the cutlery market now.

I agree, I do it. But then, isn't it what we all do?

All of us either work for a guy who really has the original idea, or purchase materials to build our own products. Even a guy who customizes cars buys most of the components from auto supply houses.

Unless someone is smelting raw steel in his back yard, we are all middle-men.

In 1983 I bought a New Honda Golwing - i rode it to work one day - The owner of the Checrolet Dealership i was working at came up to me and said "If you love them so much why don't you move over there" - That was 1983 - This same dealer sold out a few years ago - along with his Chevrolet dealership he ended up with BMW, Volvo, Subraru dealerships - I think he still lives in Spokane .

i don't remember much...but i read a lot...when america was the center of production of quality pocket watches, the swiss took the rap for CHEAP IMPORTS...and of course..the swiss were guilty of flooding the market with cheap watches' and parts...imitations...then the chinese and Japanese and the french...oh how history repeats it's self...

all industrial nations produce variations of products...a VW vs. a BMW...two different animals..made in the same area...high quality and low...

the point is...somewhere on earth, someone is complaining about cheap american products...
and someone else is buying them. nationalism has nothing to do with economics.( or taste )

I will but first I have to go out & remove all the Sambar Stag Scales from my knives - dang Sambar Stag from India - when thats done i'll have to haul all my Handmade knives to the land fill because they are made from ATS 34 - all the ATS 34 comes from Japan - Oh man - i just checked - all the bone scales on the rest of my knives are imported - my elepahant Ivory - dang that must have been imported I haven't seen any elephants in town lately - well you get the idea - Harley Davidson imports 50 to 80% of the parts they use to build American made Harleys - Go into any Harley store & look at he chrome dept. 99.9% - made in Chinia - I have toured 2 Harley plants - all you will see in the way of box's laying around say Made in America

just to change the subject - here is a Chopper Trike i built last winter - I named the trike "Widow Maker" I used a German engine & transmission - This was a fun deal - i sold it to a knife customer in Long Island, New York - enjoy - tom

Tom, don't get to feeling bad because some of the guys here on AAPK talk bad about you selling china made knives. I understand both sides of the fence. I can honestly say I have sold mostly rough riders in my retail store. The Buck, Case, GEC, Bear, etc. just don't sell as quick as the rough riders.

As for your embellishing......man that looks good on any knife! Keep up the good work and put it on whatever you need to make a living and sell your product. Even if it is a china made knife!

Besides, I don't think anything is made in America much anymore. Shoot, I wonder sometimes if babies are even made here anymore!

So, I say lets look at the fantastic embellishing job Tom done and don't worry about the media he done it on. Especially since we are all typing on computers made in Ameri.....oh wait.

Nothing--absolutely nothing--waves the American flag more proudly than a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. You have to submit to a sperm count just to sit on the demos. They won't even talk to you at a dealership if you smell like an 'droid phone.

They use(d) Bosch electronics and now Nippon Seki gauges.

Make fun of a biker and he'll slice you up with steel made by Hitachi.

My 1989 Ford Mustang was built in Canada. My Geo Tracker was assembled here in the USA.

They also utilize "re-badging." A Dodge Stealth and Mitsubishi 3000GT are the same car. They often rolled down the same assembly line, and depending on the individual work order were outfitted with differing fenders and badging.

I engraved a name plate for the new owner - that was the only engraving on this one - tom
