loose bone
loose bone
I was wondering what I could do with valuble antique knives where the bone has become loose at one end. Is there someone that would come recomended that could fix these handles? What causes this anyway....time?
Re: loose bone
I use 15 minute epoxy from USA Knife Makers Supply.
The 5 Minute works well also.

Re: loose bone
Sometimes the bone or the pin head gets worn down over time. That allows debris to get into any gaps that may form. Through use and handling, they just get more loose.4444 wrote:I was wondering what I could do with valuble antique knives where the bone has become loose at one end. Like Dale said, a good epoxy will take care of it. Depending on how loose they are, I might recommend trying to clean out any crud and gunk that may accumulate between the bone and the metal, maybe with a toothpick or similar item. That crud may affect the hold of the epoxy. Just don't pull the bone scales away too much, you could break them.
Good luck, and if you have pics of your repair work, we always enjoy seeing them.
