Wanted: Western fixed blade junkers

Post by coffeecup »

I'm gathering Western fixed blade junkers for one of my ongoing projects: a tutorial on replacing the handles on Western fixed blade knives. I need a few more for measurement and photographic purposes and to make sure I've actually got the process figured out.

The ones I'm looking for will typically have stacked-leather washer handles and a patent number stamped on the blade. I'm not too concerned about the condition of the blade, all I'm focused on right now is that split-tang handle, and the best way to make a new handle.

I need maybe a half-dozen or so knives with handles suitable for re-building. I'd prefer the pommel/buttcap wasn't broken off, but on one or two it wouldn't be critical--like I said, I'm still figuring this out. I'm buying junkers because at this point, but once I get the details worked out I'll make the measurements (and washers) available here on AAPK.

Thanks!
Jim
Quality should not be an accident. So what is the explanation for some of the knives we've seen in the past few years? (from A Knifebuyer's Manifesto)
