Buck 500

I've been eyeing these up lately. Is this a discontinued model? Any history info on them?

Seems like a nice in beteen size, kinda bridging the gap between the 501 Squire, and the larger 112 and 110.

Here is the 500 with a 112, as you can see they are about the same size. The 500 is slimmer and better for the pocket. The Duke 500 introduction was in 1978. It has been discontinued, but, is still offered now and then as a customer special order or as a Buck issued LE. You can find many duke 500's on the after market supply (ebay and others).

Slimmer and a lighter than the 112, but still 4 1/4" and IMO a bit on the big and heavy side for an EDC. But I like the 500 and have used the model in the woods, both carried in a pocket and on my belt in a sheath.

Thx for the replies, and pic. My computer was down for a while, and I"m just getting back.

Yes, the 500 is a nice slim size. I ended up picking up an older one. The bolsters are scratched up a little, I think from sliding in & out of the sheath, but I'm fairly certain I can polish the scratches out. (I"ve polished the engraving out of a stainless steel Executive.) The blade is mint and very sharp.

Didn't have the original sheath, but I got a great deal on this leather one, along with 2 Buck lightweight nylon camo sheaths. Nice lightweight package for hiking, biking etc, the 500 in the nylon.

Anyway, here's a few pics for you Buck admirers.... one alongside my 112 models.
