Post by mikek »

OK case guys, got ahold of a 6445 scout knife 1920-40 in jigged black without the bail and it looks like there never was one. My Sargents 6th does not list this one.Any of you have any info? Thanks, MikeK

is it an "official" boy scout knife or a camp knife?

sorry, case did'nt make "official" bs knives then. they did produce a 6445r with a shield that said case scout in the 40s. it was probably rough black.
this is all conjecture without pictures of the knife in question.
all of my case books show 6445r knives. no plain 6445. that does'nt mean there were'nt any made.

case 6445

jonet, its not the scout knife.it is 3 3/4 inches long, has the notch above the shield and no can opener just the main blade, leather punch,screwdriver/caplifter and the small blade with the stud that fits into the notch.I guess you could call it a camping knife. If any one could tell me if they were made without the bail would be helpful. Thanks again, Mike

Ill try to get some pics. The knife belongs to a coworker. It was his granddads. It has the 1920-40 C that ends at the E stamp. Cant tell if the XX was ever there or not because thats were the blade pivots and its a little rough right there. As for it ever being repaired.....cant say for sure but I doubt it. Thanks again, Mike

It may be one I remember. Check the Thread "Sailor Knives" page 2 and see if any of the old knives CCBill has on there has the same type of can opener/blade with stud.
I am not 100 percent it is not "Official", but 98. Case did make some knives with this style of can opener years ago IIRC. I may have to dig a book out to confirm about the bail & pattern number to be sure.

First, Case NEVER made an official BSA scout knife.

Its possible that some 6445 patterns were made without the bail...from your description the handles are imitation bone, could have been a WWII knife. pic would help.
