What's your user or carry knife?

I'd be extremely interested to know what others on this board like to carry and use.

For myself, I've got three knives that get used and carried regularly. I'm a corporate manager, so I don't really have need of a knife at work, except to open Fedex packages and so on. However, since I've got the disease, I've always got to have a pocket knife on me to look at and fiddle with. I pretty much alternate between a Weidmannsheil "Little buddy" lockback with buffalo horn handles, and a Case chrome vanadium mini copperlock with yellow delrin handles. Soon as I find a CV mini copperlock with bone or stag, I'll switch to that. Bill, can you help me there?

On weekends when I'm perpetually working around the house or woodworking, in addition to my ever present Leatherman Wave (does that count?) I carry my Moore Maker punch blade stockman with yellow delrin handles. It's more heavy duty than my week day knives, and I actually prefer the delrin to another that I have in buffalo horn. I guess because I use it and abuse it a lot. To me, it's the ultimate medium duty user/work knife.

I am incapable of narrowing down my choices like a rational person. So, I close my eyes and grab three knives.....

I usually have a neck knife (J. Neilson or Chuck Gedraitis).
A slipjoint (too many choices.... OK, usually a Fightin Bull Muskrat).
A David Winston key knife on my truck key.

Man, I like knives!!!

Our host Bryan has a real nice Mini Copperlock in the store (Item#C6354) in Walnut bone......but alas it is stains less steel

. Nice knife though. I would think if there is one out there, maybe Bryan can find it for you Jim.

Moore Maker for me too--on the weekends and every other day. That 3 and 7/8 stockman can't be beat for everyday carry.

Right rear pocket: new Buck knife, slowly aging with use.
Left rear pocket: Imperial from my father, very old and not aging.
Not that my school is dangerous or anything, but you never know when you're going to need a pocket knife or two.

My main everday knife is a Gerber lockback. The reason is its slim and comfortable to carry. On weekends I carry either a Bulldog Stockman with leather punch or an 88 pattern Case Congress.

For 30 years, I have carried a Buck Stockman. Been through 2-3 of them in that time. I forgot I had it last weekend when I arrived at the airport security and now TSA has it.

On auto-pilot, I went to Lowes to get another. They no longer carry Buck so I went on-line to find a supplier. I did - but the offers were all about "first production" and "last production" which did not interest me. I just wanted a quality knife to use - don't care if it is made in Idaho or not.

Over time, however, I had also grown somewhat dis-satisfed with the quality of Buck and the SS blades. I wondered what else was available and stumbled across this post via google.

I had never heard of Moore Maker - but am an instant fan (how could the carrier of Baxter Black products be anything but great?) I ordered a Stockman from an "ebay store" on Monday and it arrived Wednesday. It is perfect - just what I was looking for. Thanks to you.

and based on a single experience, I can recommend this vendor.

Now - I have an old, cupped set of oilstones and have begun wondering if there is a better "sharpening technology" for this new knife. Specifically, I am looking at the Moore Maker two sided diamond stone:

Well I'm glad to hear there's another Moore Maker fan out there. I have three MM's and I got all of them from Cowboy Knife Sales on E-bay. I agree, first rate vendor.

I'm no expert regarding sharpening, but I have set of three Arkansaw stones (Course, medium and fine) and I also have a small diamond stone that I can carry with me in a leather pouch. Hopefully someone who knows something about sharpening will chime in.

Thats a great question !
I have so many carry knives, but, I almost always go back to either my Gerber Carter design, its thin, light and lightning quick (and safe)
Or, I go back to my old standby (for a pocket knife) a Case Butterbean (a select stag).
On a sidebar, my friends always love their gifts, and they use them too.
I also have knives everywhere, in my truck's side compartment, glove compartment, tool belt, bathroom (OK, I'm just kidding on the bathroom) I also have a Case letter opener, Henckels Kitchen knives, and another is my cheap Camillus keyring knife (which is fantastic!) I use that one a lot it seems.
As the name implies- I-LIKE-KNIVES !!

Let's see, a case peanut in my pocket(on my days off), buck multitool on my right hip and a spyderco w/ clip on my right thigh pocket(at work). That's the norm for me.

A Moore Maker 7100LBS in the rear pocket, and either a Moore Maker 3300 Stockman, or a Moore Maker 3205, in the front pocket.

How do you like that Moore Maker 7100LBS? Looks pretty good, and the price is right. For some reason it's one fifth the price of the Roper, and I can't really see much reason for the huge price difference, except for the thumb slide opening system on the Roper. Same steel. Roper's a little bigger I think. Micarta handle versus Zytel. It's a mystery to me, but I've never handled either one, just seen pictures.

I've only seen photo's of the Roper, so I really can't comment. I love the 7100LBS, it's light weight, once I clip it to the rear pocket, it's easy to forget that it's there. I'll be getting it's "cousin" real soon (7100LB). At a price of $27, it's hard not to get another.

I mysel switch out knives all the time, sometimes the classic swiss, or lately a chna made knife that I got real cheap and flips open fast. I generally carry small knives though.

Really good topic. I like seeing what you old knife hobbiest carry. Im very new to the hobby. I have a little Case Peanut I sure like alot. It had been sharpened alot before I got it and had the sway back edge. Ive straightened that out and carry it alot.

Im so new at the hobby, I'll take a new one in to work when I get one and show it to my friends at work too.

Also I carry a Buck Creek Congress with Solingen Steel sometimes. Man I like Solingen Steel! Its so easy to sharpen up and holds a great edge.

I am an electrician and have Buck wood handle knife which Ive cut the blade off on intentionally thats has a section of it serated. Its got a thumb tab thats handy as well. Great wire stripping knife.

Now I bought myself a Stag Handle Case Congress in 1998 when I moved to Nashville and it holds a special place in my heart too. It seems to have been a 1978 model whe nI bought it from ACE Hardware! LOL wish I had known, might not have carried it.

Hmmm So how do we narrow this down? LOL

It is a Case USA stag stockman for me. I think of it as a knife with character.

Another "classic" thread of mine I see, brought back from the dead!

Funny thing is, my main EDC hasn't changed in all that time -- it's still the same Moore Maker delrin 3 7/8 punchblade stockman. My delrin/CV Copperlock still goes with me to work occasionally, but my main dressy/office EDC is now a Canal Street sleeveboard pen in Sambar Stag and A2 steel. Yes, it's the BFC Forum knife for 2006, I'll admit it.

I recall another old thread where I told everyone I had an old Imperial, and wanted to know how collectable Imperials are. Let's not resurrect that particular gem, if you don't mind.

Most here will probably not agree with my choice of EDC knife....but for the type of work I do, and the places I go, I find myself usually carrying one of my Parker-Edwards razor/trappers. The clip point will do most of the things you'd expect of a "pocket knife" and the razor blade will do the rest. Being a cabinet maker, I find it one of, if not the most useful knives I've ever carried.

Feels good in my hand and rides well in my jeans. It draws a lot of attention when I pull it out to open a box or cut some rope or somesuch too. Not many folks have seen a knife with a "straight razor blade".

I like YELLOW knives too.

I drive a YELLOW school bus when school is on but can't show it off.

If my riders would see it I think I would loose my job (humm)...

Here is my user a SOG Stingray.

She get me through the day opening boxes of knives that the snail-man brings....

You all know to cut paper you need a good sharp blade.

This Sog edge holds up real well for me doing just that.

For today, Buck Quest, Spyderco Delica, UC two blade peanut. All razor sharp and all in the same pocket. All lightweight too. All very well worn and sharpened. But that's just for today's carry. Seems like I always end up carrying these three tho.

Below are some of my EDC's as of last June.......I have added a few (er.........several...........a bunch?)

since then.

I have several hawkbills I would like to carry (beside while working in my yard), but a hawkbill is NOT sheeple friendly!

generally i have two in my pocket : today it's a Saladini from Scarperia (italia) and a little SAK mini-champ. I use it for packets, letter, sometimes for eating (when restaurant's knives are cutting "like my grandmother knies"), or simply to play with it.
