Help Dating this Buck knife 506

anyone have a buck dating reference besides the 110

Only thing I can tell you for certain Gino is that the 500 series weren't made until after 1975. The first ones were made by Camillusfor Buck. But Buck moved production to their own plant sometime in the early 1980s?

I remember reading (here of course) that they started dating knives in 1986 so id say 75-86. Mark

My reference material says 1974 to 1980, 1 dot on either side of the model No. 1980, 2 dots on the right side of the model No. 1981 to 1986, 2 dots on either side of the model No. Unfortunately, I see no marks on your tang? Kelley

The date codes began with the 1986 models. So this is pre-86. This is not my model area of knowledge, but the Script lettering of Buck means it is a limited edition. I believe the scale is micarta.

Don't believe dots apply to anything but 110s and 112s.

You can take this for gospel, there are no dots on the 300 series....except the periods between U.S.A. .....ha

300Bucks, I know this is a little of topic here but I have a USA made Buck 300 series knife that has the 425M SS blades. Is it just my knife or was all of the 425M SS bladed Buck knives not very good at keeping an edge on them? I can understand the chances of having 1 blade that isn't up to par but not every blade in the knife. I tried different angles on the blades but it did not help. The blades will get sharp but they will dull very fast after a small amount of use. I've never had this problem with a Buck knife before. I had to do a little more work to sharpen the older 440C bladed Buck knives I have but they held their edge very good. The newer 420HC bladed Buck knives doesn't give this problem. I was wondering if it's the 425M steel or if I just picked the only lemon Buck knife made. Anyone else had or heard of this problem before with this steel?

Bump this up for 300Bucks, or Hukk, or Darksev, or MM, or any one else that has some cutlery steel knowledge. I'm a lost ball in high weeds when it comes to 425M stainless steel knife blades but I would like to learn about it.
