any chance of finding a main clip blade for a XX 6318 stockm

if you remember me posting a while back about a 6318 stockman that had a main blade that just opens real easy with no snap, i got it back from case, and they said they couldnt repair it, joint was wore i guess causeing spring to stay sunk in some, i think that tank here said he might weld it up some, i was just curious if there was a chance any one would have that blade in good shape, i guess though it might be like finding a needle in a haystack !!

I'm surprised that it's not repairable as is......you should be able to tweak the main spring a bit to tighten it up....you might also be able to pound the side of the spring a bit to expand it for more "bite" on the tang of the main blade. (I've had limited success with this method, but it has worked before on both the tang of the blade and on the spring, but the spring is softer so it's easier)

That all requires the knife to be disassembled.....and if reworking the spring doesn't get you the results, then it means a new spring, which should be easier to make/find/beg than a blade?

I'd do it, but I don't have the time.

Usually the tang is worn down on the blade when they loose snap.

Sometimes you can expand the tang some (pound on it) and get some of the snap back.

Neither that or pounding on the spring is optimal.
The best fix, IMHO, would be a new blade.

yes orverts right, the tang, joint, is wore down, which lets the spring sink in some.

Dale, I agree that a new blade is best, but if that's not available (and I don't know how rare it is) then there might be other ways to tune the knife.

Regardless, it's going to have to be taken apart at least partway to get a fix.

I've got a local welding shop that does great TIG welding and builds the tang area back up for me. Sometimes I'll have them build up the backspring also because a divot can wear into it causing the same problem. Quite often, both happen on the same knife. From there it's a matter of careful grinding to put it back to where the factory intended. I know heat on a knife blade isn't a good thing, but TIG welding is so quick and far enough away from the actual business part of the cutting area that I haven't had any problems (yet).

I do have a replacement blade for you, but it isn't from the XX Era (much newer). PM me if I can help.
