I have one of these with the dark yellow, model # and a shield (in 3 eye) but have been looking for an older example. This one came in todays mail and is quite minty! I love these deep etches!

Thanks Keith.
For those who are interested. Here are comparison pics between the older 3 eye and newer 3 eye. I believe the Dark yellow with the eye shield was made in '79-'80. IIRC model numbers were put into effect in '79 and the 3 eye etch was stopped in '80 or '81 (correct me if i'm wrong).
I'm inclined to agree on the dates you gave. I bought one in 81 and it had the shield and the dark yellow. It also had a crooked tip. I thought I was gonna be smart and bend it straight. WRONG!
A couple of years later I went to buy another and there were none around where I was looking that had the shields on 'em. I've still got that I snapped the tip off of and it is a HELL of knife. I gave it to the kid five years ago and he promptly lost it in a chair that he'd spilled some kind of soft drink in. When it came to the light a year or so later it was a pretty big rusty mess. I cleaned it up and resharpened it but it sure ain't nothing to look at any more. It'll still gut a deer and slice whatever you want it to.

Ken You flatter me. Most everybody here is more knowledgeable than I. I really think you did well in getting that old Eye though. I'm looking forward to seeing it dated.
Ken,
I saw one of that pattern sell on eBay not too long back for $105, and it was not in the condition of yours. I'm guessing that a couple of bidders got into a urinating contest during the bidding.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I'm not sure what price might be safe any more.
Great knife and one of my favorites.
