repair question

I have an old Case fixed blade with stacked leather ring handle. 2 rings are missing and I made get-by repairs by trimming electrical tape the width of the rings and wrapping until the space was full. Naturally the tape wrap is not the same oval as the leather rings but it will get by for now. It's an old around the house user, but I'd rather it not have that "repaired by redneck" look quite as bad. If I could figure out a better looking solution, I think I'd polish the metal up and add it to my collection box. Anyone got any ideas? Help me out here.
