aluminum handles

Hey everybody,

I recently read a want add from Carey Chlumsky. He's looking for Hemings Bros. aluminum handled folding hunter. I don't have what he's looking for but I am curious about aluminum handles. I got an aluminum handled stockman, (solid aluminum handles, no bolsters) at a flea market for $3 (if remember right). (I'll have to find it and add to this post the maker.) It's in good shape, snaps good and looks good. About 4 1/2" long closed. It's the only aluminum handled pocket knife I have ever seen. Are there many out there or do any of you guys own some or have you seen very many? Was this a fad at one time? Anyone know about when these were made?(Just curious)

I know Buck had a series of aluminum handled knives, the 80's I believe. They were all lockbacks and the handles had a lot of scrolling. There was a place in the center of the handle to engrave your initials. They came in a felt bag, inside a matching felt lined clasp box and an outer cardbord sleeve. I've seen a set of 3 with everything in mint condition being sold for $500.00. I don't remember the model numbers offhand.

Bear in mind that aluminum was once a semi-precious metal and regarded highly. Here are some aluminum handled jobs, all old advertisers. The top four are by Schrade Walden and New York Knife company. The small lobster at the bottom is an Alcoa Imperial.

Here is an aluminum handled Remington electricians knife. It is alot lighter than Remingtons wooden handled electricians knife. These are actually quite rare and are seldom seem.

Those are nice looking knives. I've been diggin through boxes and such tryin to find my aluminum handled one. Have'nt found it yet but I will, and I'll post the maker. As soon as I learn how to use my wife's digital camera, and upload pics, I'll post some. Thanks for your replies fellas. Anyone else seen any aluminum handled knives?

I have owned several of these Robeson stockman's pattern. It is four inches, has long clip, spey, and pen blades, and aluminum handles with no liners. Tang stamp, "ROBESON/CUTLERY/U.S.A."

Queen still makes an aluminum line. I think they're called the Big Chief series.

And Victorinox (and Wenger, for that matter) has been putting out aluminum-handled knives for years.

E.C.Simmons had several patterns with aluminum bolsters and pearl handles. They also had some with all aluminum handles. You will see these with the Walden Knife Co. stamping also,as they made them for simmons.

Hey guys I'm back. (been to Florida for a week, got real tired of Mickey Mouse.) Glad to see all the posts on this thread. I hope I can find some of the knives you guys have posted pics of. I'd like to have a few in my collection. Mine is the same knife as the Robeson stockman. ( anyone know about when these were made?) It's the only aluminum knife (except for some of the smaller 2 blade advertisers) that I've ever seen. Cool to see that some other folks have some. Thanks for posting all the pics and info. (I was hoping mine might be worth a few thousand dollars.)

I did not have anything to add to the topic until I started investigating Laguiole knives and found out that aluminum is used pretty regular by this particular knife maker...
