Howdy, y'all!

Post by Cowboy7130 »

Like many of you, I was bitten by the pocketknife bug at a young age. My first knife was an imitation Old Timer-style Barlow, probably made from recycled beer cans: the "Delrin" scales were actually pressed tin. I won that knife in a peanut rolling contest at a farm products show at a rural high school when I was about six years old. I was a "big boy" with my pocketknife. I was so proud when my grandfather told me to cut open the feed sack at the ranch with my pocketknife, and I could actually reach into my own pocket and pull out my own knife! :D I remember laying in bed, staring at the knife as I turned it over and over in my fingers, opening and closing it dozens of times before I went to sleep each night. I held onto that knife for years; sadly, when I put it away, it was lost in a box of "junk" after I got married. ::dang:: ** ... stupid ex-wife ... ::dang::

I remember getting a small stockman 3-blade when I was about 8 years old, as a Christmas gift. It was from a department store, and it was a real cheapie, but I thought I had just entered adulthood, because my grandfather and father both carried Schrade Old Timer 8OTs. To me, real men carried 3-blade stockman knives. Unfortunately, I never learned how to sharpen it very well, and it remained as dull as dull could be.

I had 9 uncles, and 7 of the nine carried 8OTs. Two of the more independent spirits carried Case knives. Thus, I have a real passion for Old Timers and Case knives. My current favorites are the 94OT, the 96OT, and of course, the 8OT. My favorite Case knives are the 4-1/4" trappers. My honey-pie gave one to me for Christmas, with the Texas inlay in the bois d'arc ("Bo Dark") scales. I like it too much to carry, so now I want to get another one to put in my pocket!

Anyhow, that is probably way more than you want to know about me, right now. I will be asking a lot of questions ::shrug:: that most of you guys have probably already answered, but please bear with me! Thanks! :D
