New Additions from eBay

I went to my watch list about a week ago on eBay and I saw these 2 Bulldog Brand Knives with the bids showing at only $36 for the 3 blade and $35.00 for the 2 blade, with a few minutes left. Naturally I jumped on both with decent bids. I was very surprised

to win both at $51.00 for each knife as I had bid $115.00 on each. The First Generation Bulldog 3 Blade trapper is BKC 202 (books at $200) and the First Generation Bulldog 2 Blade trapper is BKC 203, (books at $150) both Charlie Dorton designed 3 7/8 straight frame trappers. Both knives have no rubs, no scuffs on the bolsters and have a heavy lubricant coating the blades. They are like new, as close to mint as you can get. Why so cheap?
The seller did not describe the knives well or identify them. The picture was also lousy, a flash was used and reflected off the blades so that you could not really see what they looked like. There was just the one picture of each. I took a chance and got 2 mint knives that need to be cleaned for a fraction of the value, I have never seen these knives at such a low price.

These pictures were taken as I recived the knives, they do need to be cleaned, especially the heavy lube on the blades.
$102.00 for both, can't be beat.

I will give you $52.00 for each of them...

I do want you to make some easy money there...

Great purchase, you did get them for a fraction of what they are worth and for a guy like me who loves 3 bladed trappers you hit a home run on getting that knife so cheap.

You told the secret to my ebay shopping trick, look for auctions that have not been laid out very well, poor pictures, poor detail and the guarantee to buying a knife well below the value is finding a knife that has accidently been put into the wrong catagory. I bought a 3 bladed German Eye a while back where I saw one that sold for $177.00 under the German Eye catagory but this one was put under Case knives and did not really explain what it was and I picked it up for $36.00...

You did great on getting those knives for those prices and thanks for sharing your experience with us...

On a different note, what will you use to clean up those knives???

Typically on the Carbon steel blades I've been using Simichrome. It does a great job on light oils and imparts some silicon in the surface of the blade. I hear oils are not the best for carbon steel due to the moisture content from water. These knives have a thick lube, almost grease. A little Remoil will cut the grease and then I can use Simichrome. I understand that there is another product out there that that is similar but the name escapes me. Thanks for the offer, I will consider it

You are absolutely correct find sellers with bad descriptions, poor pictures, and most buyers will not know what they are looking at unless they are told. Something to keep in mind when you are in a selling mode.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then !!!!

Here is my happy ebay purchase of late...Oh yeah I tried to beat Hukk but I had to pay $52.99

I will take that price everyday for more of these beauty's...I love the peacock etching on the one blade, I have wanted one for a while...

There is a little oxidation on the exposed part of the blades but not too bad for this 1985 English Steel Bulldog made in 1993 (Figure that one out

)...

That's a GREAT buy there Sunburst!

I think this would be regarded as a second generation knife where the 3 blade trappers were made of left over parts from Old Dominion Club knives, circa 1985. The Peacock blades may heve been made in 1993, there are 2 different handle sets with Peacock etching in the second generation group. Looking into my book now this is a BKC 430, 1 of 40. In the second generation 3 blade trappers that are 1 of 40 have the dog head shield and the 1 of 5 have an acorn. This is for second generation 3 blade trappers only. Where was I when this was for sale?

Your right Hukk, the blades are made of English steel circa 1985 from left over parts but I had to guess on the 1993 date of fabrication ( I let somebody borrow my bulldog book and I could not check and see to verify the date).

You were probably waxing your two beauty's you stole for the great price while this auction was going on...In all honesty I caught this auction by luck with less than 45 seconds left and made a mad bid and won the knife. And even got free shipping with the purchase
