Help with restoration of Shrade 204S

Hello. I'm new to this site and needed some help. I recently discovered my late grandfather's old knife in his toolbox. It is pretty beat up. With a quick look at the Schade section of this site i discovered it was a 204S 3-3/4" Electrician type w/shackle. The blade part of the knife is nicked up towards the tip with some type of yellow, redish, white stuff which I am guessing is rust. Can barely read the the words on it due to some type of black stuff, but i managed. The other blade which i am presuming is another knife but had a flattened tip. The back of the knife has a hairline crack on each side of the wood. The brass? is dinged up also all around the knife. Inside are some rust looking stuff but i can't tell because i don't know how to take it apart. I would like to keep it as original as possible but i will do what it take it make it great again. If you guys have any prices that would help too. I took some pictures but they aren't too good. My camera is only 3.2 megapixel so bear with me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks One more thing. The larger blade is pretty hard to open and the the smaller one is almost impossible to open. Is this project worth it?

The second blade is a screwdriver/wirestripper. There's alot of corrosion there, which might be what is causing the blades to stick. Brass corrodes as well, though it's not rust, it's still not good. Handles and bolsters look to be in pretty decent shape, and handles are easy to replace anyways. the blade on the other hand, looks pretty bad. Restoration on something that rusted is out of my skill range, but I'm sure there's someone here that could take on the challenge. If it's granddad's knife, then it would be worth it to try in my opinion

I have some steel wool i was just gonna run up and down it. Also a wire brush i was thinking. Will that thin out the blade at all? If this isn't the way should i just get a new blade or something? Thanks for the time.

I love doing restoration on those old classics.
I have so much on my plate at the moment I couldn't get to it any time soon.

From a quick check of the catalogs, it looks like they stopped using wood on the Schrade Walden 204 around 1970.

Well boys. I got the pins cut but I am having trouble with the silver hanging thing. If I cut it will i be able to replace it? how do I take off the silver caps? will i be able to replace them easily? and lastly If I make new folders? from wood, how do i make that little indent for the silver design? Thanks guys. I'll post pics later

Matt i'd be happy to restore it for you but I'm about 16 weeks out right now.

If you wish to try doing this yuorself proceed with caution.

There is a pin that holds the bail (or shackle) on carefully file the head off the pin and you should be able to tap the pin out with a punch. You'll need a small hammer, a vice or bench block, and a punch for this the punch will probably need to be 3/32" perhaps a bit smaller. you can go over all the internals with some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper but be careful not to round any edges. The bolsters (silver caps) do not need to come off. I can post a short pictorial of disassembling and reassembling a 204 tommorow evening if that would be of any help to you. Any questions, just ask

DON'T take off the bolsters (silver caps) you won't get them back on.......not easily, if at all.

The best think to do is post a pic or a scan of the knife so we can see the details.
It is hard to give advice when we are not sure what you are talking about.

DON'T take off the bolsters (silver caps) you won't get them back on.......not easily, if at all.

Sorry about that Dale. Well I cut all the pins and I filed the top pin of the bail. When I did that the butt springs fell out and what I am left with is the 2 blades, the bolster linings, and the center scale all in one. I can spin them all around but they are connected at the bolster. I got the handles and the shield off also. I have a picture for you. Now that I know those are spings I think they might be back since the knife doesn't function too well.
