Hello All;
Does anyone know or know where to find the answer??

The question: Is there a correlation between the tang stamp on folders and the blade or tang mark on Case fixed blade knives.

Another question: Were there different marks for butcher types and made for hunting types. Please disregard the years that kinfolks made the hunting type.

Last question: What would be a guess as to first years of Case butcher type hunters.

Hey Mossdancer,

The only question of the three I can answer is the first one. From 1980 to present the tang stamps are the same, prior to that they are very different. I hope this helps

I know this is a carving knife, but it is from the kitchen.

I had this on my machine already. You can not see or tell, but the CASE XX and everthing else in stamped in. There is a patent number to the right stamped in also. It is "Process Patent # 2147079" & was issued on Feburary 14, 1939. It is for the grind. Kinda hollow ground, but feels flat.
It is a sturdy blade like a butcher, the cutting edge is approximately 8 inches. Overall not quite 13.

Maybe you have something to compare?

How long these were on the market, I do not know. Some came with a steel also.
I also have a wooden wall block marked or back W.R. Case & Sons for butcher knives. It says they will sharpen them for Free if you sent the knife/knives back plus 25 cents to cover S&H. But, sadly no history or knives for it.

Hey all;
Both answers so far have been helpful.
If you care to look, here is the delimma of some knives.

I tried my darndest but I cant get the mark to show on the top one.
It is: XX(on their side) followed be W.R.Case&Sons Cut. Co. over Bradford, Pa.
The abbreviation of Penn. is disturbing I dont know when they start with Pa.
The rest are self explanatory.
