Jim Bowie Folder

Post by yerout »

Knifer friends, I need a little help with this one, It's a Jim Bowie folder she's 41/4" long looks like a 94 pattern Case with square bolsters, it has yellow comp or plastic scales with no shield, tang marked Jim Bowie in cursive the knife appears to be quite old, well made but pretty worn the master spear blade does have a long pull, will try to get a pic of it.

Thanks
Roger

Sounds like something from the Olbertz factory in Germany to me. I'm no expert on this topic though, so I'll not dare say that for sure.

I do know they currently mark some knives with "Jim Bowie" in cursive. Not sure when they started, or on what patterns, or if other manufacturers have used that mark...?

Maybe you already knew all that. ::nod:: I know you're more knife savvy than me.

Love the new avatar by the way! ::tu::

I believe the 94 pattern # has been on a couple different patterns....but here is a Canoe that might be similar to your knife.

I think longbeachbum found out the Eye Brand and the Jim Bowie Brand were now being made by Olbertz, as Bryan surmised.

Yea, I should have dug this up before opening my mouth. Here is a link to the discussion where Longbeachbum got to the bottom of some stuff...

It prompted me to buy a Jim Bowie knife, an Indian Head knife, and a few Eye Brand knives. They all came in the same style of box. (Yellow with the German Eye emblem and "Carl Schlieper Solingen" written accross the bottom).
