CASE numbering- dot system and the pricing guide

The price guide on the AAPK website is awesome ! I have been using it to inventory a collection of CASE pocket knives handed down to me by my grandfather. Most fall into the 1970 to 1979 range, a few from 1980-1984, and a few pre 1970...1940-65 & 1965-69. About the case numbering system, as an example,a 1970 knife would be stamped "CASE XX USA" with 10 dots below. However, I have run into a couple of situations where I was looking for a particular year of a pattern, but it would be skipped on your pricing value guide. For example, I am llooking at a 6 dot pattern, which would translate into a 1974 year model...however on the listing it may go 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976.... why is that? Why does your guide skip certain years, when I know that year exsisted because I am looking at one. Not that the value is all that different...usually only a few dollars between year models.... just curious...any insight?

the price guide is out of date. it is also a project in work and no where close to complete. you will be better off buying a price guide such as parker's to inventory your collection.
