I went a little overboard.
First 3 are my every day users and abusers.
Next 3 are my dress up carries.
Last if my favorite fixed blade user. (fishin and camping.)

That's cool justacowboy I like the fixed blade, looks nice and reliable, just what you want when your camping, its funny, when I look at knives I like the long thin dagger looking knives, but it seem that for me and you too the short blade on a good handle is the best to use for all purpose.
Thanks for showing me your blades, I guess I posted this as a sort of survey to better ejamaca8 myself on just what a good knife is and what other knifers are liking most.

After much deliberation, here's my submissions

1) Favorite carry knife right now is a GEC 25 barlow I redid in African Blackwood. There's some not-to-flashy file work on it, but all said and done it's pretty basic. clean. It's been in my pocket the majority of the time I've had it. perfect balance of size cutting power. It comes to work with me alot, much to the chagrin of my peanuts, baby stockmans, etc (hey, sibling rivalry is good for the family ) It's actually the mate to the GEC barlow I did in Ivory a while back.

2) Workhorse knives. For out in the yard, working around the house, and general tasks, I've been splitting time between two knives. The first is a MooreMaker medium stockman, the second is a Case 6202 jack. Both are very simple, no filework, no frills kinda stuff. Bone and Antler respectively

3) Pride of my collection. This spot does change a bit, as my skills customizing improve, there's always bound to be a new top dog. I was originally going to put the Ivory GEC here, but, with all the work I put into it, and all the fun I had, I just can't take this spot away from my new 51OT schrade!

Well , first of all my apologies for the lousey picture , bad time of day in this house for taking pictures it seems . I guess the old Camillus would pretty much fit into the knife I carry most ,, as well as the one I use and abuse .

The Case folding Hunter belonged to my Father . When I was a youngster , we would fish pretty heavily though the summer months in a lake near us , mostly weekends . We would pretty well spend the whole day fishing , Whatever we caught from the days excursion would be our supper that evening. My dad would always make sure that I cleaned a good half of the blasted things which usually added up to quite a few fish , a job which I seldomed cared to do . The only thing I liked about cleaning them though , was the fact that I got to use his knife to clean them with , which I always felt was a great privilege to be able to take it in hand . I would look at him off and on while cleaning the fish , and would some time catch him either grinning or laughing at me , being he knew I didn't like to clean fish .I think he made me clean them just out of orneriness . When it came time to eat those fish , it made it all worth the while though ! I have a lot of good memories that come back to visit me whenever I have this knife in hand of days gone bye of the early part of [img][/img]my early life with my family.

NICE! I hope that sandstone is not too crumbly though, don't get sand in those other two.
Woodbutcher, thanks for sharing I love your story its fkn beautiful man, I got into schrade cause my dad had a papa bear like the one in the picture that I opened the post with, I used to feel privileged when he let me use it too, though he lost his like every thing of value that comes into his hand, my sentimental part wants to buy him a knife but he will loose it or hock it, I originally just set out to buy a papa bear of my own and found one on ebay but well I was looking was when I found out that there were so many nice knives out there, so now I'm a collector.

I see that my post has had many views but not so many replies I hope that's cause everyone else is having trouble deciding which knives to take photos of, I have had a couple of days off and was hoping to see the crown jewels made to look cheap with the treasures before me.

Come on folks don't get blade shy, show em off, I want to look and learn.

Boy! This is a difficult question.As one who has been collecting knives since the age of 10(I'll be 65 in January)and has more knives than I would care to admit,this is hard;BUT;

If I had to pick one knife that I love to carry,it is a Browne & Pharr two blade that I picked up many years ago.It was made in Georgia in the 70's and was very expensive(($40 new)for it's time.It can be dis-assembled for cleaning and despite it's shape is easy to use.

The,"old faithful" knife would have to be my grandfather's Kamp King 4-blade that was the first knife to teach me how sharp a blade can really be.I still have the scar.It came into my possession after being MIA for over 20 years(a VERY long story).It used to be his everyday knife for everything from cutting open packages to peeling an apple for him and me to paring his fingernails(not a recommended practice unless you are VERY proficient with a knife).I don't carry it much anymore but whenever I do I can almost feel him looking over my shoulder and warning me to watch the snap of the blade.

The knife I am most proud of is one that was given to me for an act of kindness toward a friend.It turned out to be about 350 years old and in magnificent condition.Another very long story and one that is part of a book I have been working on for the past few years.Hopefully one day it will be finished.

Anyway here they are in the order described.Enjoy.

I would like to see (1) your favorite carrying knife (2) the knife you use a lot and would call old faithful, and (3) the knife that you would call the pride of your collection.

1. My favorite carrying knife; Kershaw 1660 Leek Ken Onion Assist RAINBOW 420 SS 4" I have fun pulling this one out of my pocket and watching others look and say WOO is that a perdy knife. She is super sharp and thin, (easy in the pocket).

2. I would call Old Faithful; Ka-Bar Trapper YELLOW from 1951 - 1966 4 1/4 " from FRAN. I do not know why but every time I hold her. I get a loving felling like my first love. I also got one just like her from OMAN ..

3. The pride of your collection; Northwoods Ivory Pre-Ban Hunter 5 1/4 " 1 of 2 from SUNBURST. Perhaps it’s just one of two is why like it. I think the other one is owned by Ed Shirley ??? (Spelling is wrong). He has some job with Northwoods and won’t sell it.

Perhaps the 2nd and 3rd knives came from men here at AAPK and makes them more meaning full to me.

Hey Knife7nut,
I like that carry knife of yours I like the fact that it can be easily pulled apart for cleaning
I wish I could do that with my LB8.
And having your Grandfathers is beautiful I don't think there could be any better heirloom
than a blade for men myself.
And that 350 year old knife is a treasure that's some favor or some friend you have there
or both, could you tell me where its from? at first glance it looks like Indo something or
other but the carvings on the handle look European to me, I would love to find out?

Sorry Ive taken so long to get back to this post I have been hoping to find the silver
handled dinner knives that my grandmother gave me so as I can post some pictures,
I guess that they would be the knives that I cherish the most as I ate with gran from the time I could eat with those, but I have put them in such a safe place that I myself cant
find them.

Ive been looking at those rainbow kershaws myself, they remind me of opals and sure do
look impressive and I have seen that yellow dog on this site before no doubt you will
spring to mind every time I see a yellow handled knife for the rest or my life now,
and that pre ban ivory knife sure is a beaut, maby while all this genetic engineering
is going on they should make a beef cow that has tusks so we can make some more as well as getting a new product from the industry, sure would make rodeo just that bit more exiting too!

PS justold yes my 171UH is a tresure too, though I got carried away with polishing and the top edge now has a mirror finish, but for myself I like it better that way mmmmm shiney.
