Fixed Blade Help

Post by Cope »

I wanted to put this in here hoping it will get more traffic than in the fixed blade forums, so if needs to be moved that's fine. What I know about fixed blades I could put in a thimble. Is there a place on AAPK or does anyone know of a site that gives info. on fixed blades such as blade types with definitions? Thanks for any help.

Dont know of a real site Blade Fourms has alot of info you could try their. I like Sargents Guide NEW one vol. ??? its down stairs and Levines Guide for fixed blades Vol 4, books seem to be a better resource for me unless they are millitary knives, where the net seems to be more updated. As for value Ebay is the best real world price and their search feature is very useful.

A good place to start would be right here. Go to the AAPK home page and then click on the "Knife Dictionary" window. Once you're there click on any blade shape listed. It will bring up a drawing showing a variety of blade configurations and what each is called. A lot of that information is pertinant to fixed blade knives as well as folders.
Besides the diagrams of blade shapes, there are a lot of terms which apply to the various parts of a knife blade such as swedge, tang, bevel etc. Check it out, there's way more than a thimble full of useful information waiting for you there! ::tu::

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I know the basic's on fixed blades but until here lately haven't been all that interested in them. I find the more I look at them, I run across terms I don't understand. I remember someone posted a link to a fixed blade quiz in the general forum some time back and I absolutely bombed on it. There were questions about fixed blades on there that I had no clue about. Just have to learn as I go. Again thanks for the replies.
