I watched the Great Lakes Freighter "Manitowoc" pull into port at St Joseph, Michigan last evening. The timing makes me think it was probably bringing in the Winter supply of salt for the highways. I love watching these freighters, the Manitowoc is 630' in length. By comparison, the Edmund Fitzgerald was 728', and was the largest of it's kind at the time of sinking. Today, there are several 1,000 footers working the Great Lakes.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if she's running a boiler. Great photos, Ike! ::tu::

We live about 15 miles south of Tullahoma in Winchester.

Tullahoma also is home to the Beechcraft Museum, and the George Dickell Distillery
And not too far from Jack Daniels distillery in lynchburg tn.

Very nice pics, guys.

I went out to the shop the other night, and there was a copperhead next to the door. I dispatched him with a shovel. Then today I was sitting in the shop watching Youtube, getting some ideas for a chisel rack, and saw some movement out of the corner of my eye. This little scorpion was headed my direction. This is a couple of days after accidently stabbing myself in the hand with a chisel.

I am starting to think my shop may not be the safest place to hang out.

I was parked next to this stump yesterday and these bracket fungi caught my eye. On the left they were much darker than the ones on the right. I'm just assuming they were the same organism and the color difference puzzled me. It's been about 50 years since I took a Mycology course. I'm still impressed with the simple beauty of such a lowly but important fungus. Eventually it will decompose the stump and return it's nutrients to the soil.
