Neat shield on a Peerless cutlery, maybe by Robeson. Looks like a magazine premium; "Subscribe for two years and we'll send you a Harness Jack!"

Odd shield, odd knife!
Reportedly came from Albert Baer's pattern drawer. Has a number inked on it.

Charlie,

All nice old shields :D

That Camillus is most unusual, not the usual jigging pattern you see, and the shield is one of a kind. Very Nice! ::drool::

Here are some modern-day shields - the latest from Bear & Son, a Bear-made Moore Maker, and a Smith & Wesson from Seki, Japan. I'm much taken with the S&W, a really clean, intricate and detailed casting.

I lost my favorite (buffalo head) but I am still looking for it in my "mess" . Please excuse the poor quality but the lexan makes for a poor background .

I got it from a friend/associate who probably acquired it with a buy out of old blades , handles , and other knife related items from the old Utica factory several years ago .

I've got two UTICA folders with this "lightning bolt" shield.

There was German Militaria site trying to sell a knife like the one pictured as a Hitler Youth knife. After some discussion he decided that he was wrong about the knife. LOL

Owd Wullie ..nice HJ knife,I have seen a picture or 2 of those knives before But what I'd like to know is,Just how is it that Utica came to make them?
After all the Germans were well versed at cutlery making.

here's a pic of the Jumbo open,

I don't think those were "HJ" knives. I think it was an instance of something that UTICA thought was neat and the "HJ" just happened to think the same thing.

During my discussions with the webmaster of the site about the HJ, all kinds of plausible arguments were brought forth to implicate that these made for the HJ. Later in the discussion, he was contacted by a member of his forum that had lists of all the equipment that was issued for and and by the HJ to the boys. Nowhere in that list was a folding pocket knife.

The only knife the HJ was issued was the dagger as can be seen here http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=5142

Like you said, Germany had a magnificent cutlery industry at the time and with the German Nationalism that was going on, I don't see them buying anything from the US that they could have produced themselves.

Owd Wullie ,thanks for the explanation.
I have a book on the HJ but I didn't see any reference to a pocket knife.
The fixed knife I am familar with and see lots of those at gun shows.

Like original swastika was a symbol for good luck, Apparently the single Sig Rune was a Victory symbol.
Interesting stuff.

runes are not a nazi invention.

Sowilo: (S: The sun.) Success, goals achieved, honor. The life-force, health. A time when power will be available to you for positive changes in your life, victory, health, and success. Contact between the higher self and the unconscious. Wholeness, power, elemental force, sword of flame, cleansing fire. Sowilo Merkstave (Sowilo cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): False goals, bad counsel, false success, gullibility, loss of goals. Destruction, retribution, justice, casting down of vanity. Wrath of god.

interesting a rune would be used as a shield...
