Newest Case Pick-Ups

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Thanks fellas, I am a fan of the 048 pattern as well, this is my first with a spey, I like it with the old yellow handles as well, with no cracks either! I normally tend to find a lot of pin cracks on the center pins in the yellow handled knives, not this one though. ::tu::

That would be the 10th anniversary of the Case XX Select brand program. This was introduced by Case in 1998. If you want you can go to www.wrcase.com, scroll down the home page and click on Case Select under the special programs heading.

I got a sweet deal on this crusted up old 31SAB...I thought from the pics it looked like it had real good potential, and when I got her in, I could tell she was solid, just in need of a little TLC...Here's what she looked like upon arrival...
20150506_182128.jpg
After a couple hours scrubbing and polishing, digging out gunk and crud etc, here is what she looks like now!
20150508_084211.jpg
20150508_084540.jpg
She snaps like a gator, half stops are crisp, and absolutely zero wobble. I love the patina that emerged when the surface rust and grime was scrubbed off. She is a 6 dot by the way, 1974. Very happy with this pick up!

Great knife Mike! If you haven't carried one before, you will be very happy with it for sure. Great pattern that can be had pretty cheap.
Nice pickup! I also carry one often.

Tom, it was great seeing you at the auction. I glad you got the 6111 1/2 and a bunch more ::nod:: . Mr. Davis had a great collection. I did buy a few knives myself, and will post some pictures as soon as they get here ( having them shipped because I didn't trust the Airline ).

That is a beauty Tom! Congrats!. Does it lock? Looks like a spot to release a lock by the upper bolster. Interesting spot for the lock release if that is what I am seeing.

Great knife. Jerry

Jerry, yes, I should have properly identified it as a 6111 1/2L. It locks tight as a drum. I agree about the location of the lock. It takes quite a bit of pressure on the lock to release the blade. I wonder if that is why the locks are farther back on the newer models.
Odd but in Sargents volume 7 there are two Case Brothers 11 patterns that have the lock where mine is and two Case Brothers Springville 11 pattern lockbacks, those would be the last ones Case Brothers made or had made, that have the locks that appear farther back. That is what makes knife collecting fun for me.
I know the pattern is a favorite of yours so would appreciate any comments or knowledge that you or perhaps someone else on the forum, might have and could pass on to myself and the others. ::tu::

What about the Case Bradford 5374 Whittler in the auction catalog - did you snag that one, too? I would love to see some better pictures of that knife.

I didn't get that one. I think Robert Wells or Tony Foster ended up with that one but am not sure. I did look it over. Nice knife. Can't remember what it brought. Maybe Larry knows more. The auction moved pretty quickly!
