Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning. 56 degrees to start the day. It looks like all is well on the home front and around the diner so far today. We have a new men's Bible study starting up tomorrow morning that should be a good one. We back off our regular programs in the summer months to give our teachers a break and concentrate on kids summer stuff and I miss the regular stuff like the Wednesday study so I'm glad we are getting together for this new one. We have one more short day on the deck railings and maybe pick away at a few little jobs like picking up scrap lumber from several small jobs we did last week and tiding up around the summer cabins before the owners get here. I have some work to do on our church too that I've been having trouble getting too so maybe that's a Saturday job. Have a great Friday and weekend.____Dave

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good Mornin', Fellers.
66 and clear skies this morning, quite different from yesterday morning when we were blessed with 2.3" of much needed rain!
Our company left in the middle of the storm, they had to meet up with someone at a certain time over toward Jacksonville. Right before they left, the power went off. Glad they were already packed! Spent most of the day lolly gaggin' and recuperating from their visit.
Our water leak on the other well appears to be a simple fix, I think.
The leak is coming from the pressure gauge.
The coffee is really good this morning!
Y'all have a wonderful day!

The rain has just stopped. Still overcast of course.
With my sister's absence, I am sustaining myself with 2 lbs. of sliced roast turkey.

Sounds like everyone is doing good today.
Glad to hear all humans and pets are doing okay.
Was up and at it early today have to make up some time for yesterday. Had a rough start then had to help mom with groceries. My two brothers and I take turns. Looking forward to tomorrow if my son can get up early enough, I will make breakfast he wants to go to Cantigy and then around noon Kane county flea market.
You all have a blessed day

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning, everyone. Finally seeing some sunshine in the lower Shenandoah Valley this morning after several days of overcast and rain. Needed the rain, however, as we've been in a drought. Saw on the regional (DC, MD, VA) tv news last night where a large tree fell right through a man's house, essentially splitting it in half and missing him by about 20 feet. I believe it was in Fairfax County, VA. I'm not sure if I'm remembering this correctly, but I believe the arborist they interviewed on site estimated the tree at weighing 70,000 pounds, not including the root ball. The rain-saturated ground was given as the cause of the fall.
Heading out this morning to the Red Byrd Restaurant near Boonsboro, MD, for breakfast. My favorite waitress, Beth, 61, has been working there 47 years as of this week. She started there on Memorial Day weekend of 1978, age 14. Only place she's ever worked. She's very much a "people person", so she found her calling early.
Have a safe and enjoyable Friday, everybody.

Good morning. I'm off to a new Saturday early morning Men's Bible study with our pastor and not much else planned for the day. It's supposed to get up into the 80's with no rain until Tuesday. I heard that another fire started up north just after all the other ones were contained but so far none have been close to us except for several small roadside ones that didn't get very far. I have a knife coming in from Scott that might be here today so I'll be watching for the mail carrier. Have a good weekend.___Dave

Good Mornin', Folks.
Unlike Scott and Dave, I have no plans for the day so far.
Just sittin' here and enjoying the 1st cup and what appears to be a beautiful day in the making, 64° and clear.
Grass is almost ready to be cut, the leak in the other well was an easy fix yesterday. The pressure gauge had failed and sprung a leak. A quick trip into town to the builder's supply and we were in business. It would be great if all plumbing jobs were that simple.
Y'all have a good one!

Morning folks, looks like it got down to 59 last night, supposed to hit the low 80's by afternoon. Had a light showers yestiddy afternoon. Some severe storms to our north and east yestiddy morning, praying for those affected. They showed the Canadian fires this morning, looks to be a real dangerous situation.
Wampus was on the tractor seat curled up on the old bath towel I keep on it just for his comfort and well being, he did manage to get up and eat. Ole boy is like me he's got a streak of laziness in him.
Need to fry up some bacon in a bit, the boss picked another ripe mater yestiddy so a samidge is in our future.
I need to get the trash together for a trip to the county satellite trash recycling bin got some big cardboard to break down may stop by the flea market, old boy I've bought a few knives from has one that fits my eye iff'n we can get together on the money.
Colonoscopy and EGD went well yestiddy, a few polyps taken care of, said they look to be benign, pathology in about week.
Hope yawl have a good'un and be careful out there.

I guess you could call me a FCD voyeur because every morning I pop in just to read the banter and updates from the regulars but I never contribute anything myself. I suspect I'm not the only one who does this.

You are correct Q. I used to be a regular but my comments evolved to be just pete and repete so I pretty much became a lurker. I do make an occasional post just to keep a hand in and I wouldn't think of missing a morning in the Diner.QTCut5 wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 8:55 pmJerryd, it's always nice to know you're around even if you don't have anything to contribute.jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Fri May 30, 2025 12:16 pm Good morning all. Good morning Boji. Nice to see you are still hanging around giving this place a little more class than just a couple old guys talking weather and aches and pains. Speaking of weather, it's 46 to start our day up here and should hit 80 this afternoon. I've got nothing planned after church except pittling around the house. Have a good Sunday.____Dave

Good Mornin', Dave. Let's say welcome to June (hurricane season)!
It's a bit cool this morning, 58°. Yesterday the high at Starvation Plantation was 82, very pleasant. Ended up mowing most of the south and east yards before dinner, looks like Monday we'll probably finish up the front and north yard.
Miss Joy just served the coffee.
Church in a few hours. After dinner we'll enjoy the traditional Sunday afternoon nap! I remember as a little feller, wishing my uncle would hurry and get up so we could take our walk in the flat woods of central Florida after church and dinner on Sundays.
Hope y'all have a great Sunday!

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning diner dwellers and on lookers .
Well a beautiful day brewing here in Sawyer county,Wi. Fish are settling into there post spawn groove and will have to get after them later today . The smoke from the fires isn’t so bad today . Yesterday it was very hazy and you could smell the smoke . Last night Sister in law got us playing “ No mercy Uno “ Now at 9 pm us old guys are like no way . But she talked us into it and it was a blast . We stayed at it till almost midnight . It’s a bit different from regular Uno and do recommend trying it with some friends or family .
It is really nice to see some other members stopping by here once in awhile and letting us know what’s up. This forum is rather unique in a good way and it’s because of you who have helped it to become this way . So please do post when you’re up to it .

Re: First Cup Diner!
I read the posts in the diner everyday. Its kind of like watching good morning America for me. I get the weather from various parts of the country. I also get to sample the vernacular and linguistic styles of various age groups and regions of the country.
Im always driving drinking my coffee when Im reading. Generally there's between 1 and 3 kids awake with me. My time spent in the diner is dictated by how long between the first kid waking up, which is when I get up, and the last kid waking up, which is when I get off the couch to make them breakfast.
Often I only have time to read as this is usually my only correspondence time of the day and I also use this time to email my knife pen pal. Today I have to leave in an hour for my job. I drive a delivery route on both days of the weekend. I work for a local business that makes artisan frozen pizzas right on the family dairy farm. It's a great job, I get to see every nook and cranny of the Fox Valley, taking roads and routes you'd never normally take on the day to day.
Third one is up. Time to go get it for the day.

The kickoff to summer tourist season has come and both of my kids were part of the invasion. This good Mama fixed their favorite foods. Daughter insisted my son go for walk with her, I’d guess they talked about me, duh! Probably wanna pack me off to the “old folks home” That won’t be happening anytime soon.

Morning folks, 59 for the low high around 80 sez the guessers, bountiful sunshine.
Wampus was awol this morning.
Yestiddy was a fine day, the boss kinda cracked the whip but I think I managed to get all the honey do's taken care of. It takes me all day to do what I used to do all day. Many rest periods is my forte.
Good to see you fine "lurkers" checking in now and again make it a enjoyable time. I worry about some of you when you're gone too long.
Hope yawl have a good'un and be careful out there.

Morning folks, 61 for the low should top out in the middle 80's.
Wampus was back on the tractor seat high and dry and ready for chow.
I got to go to my oral surgeon this morning for a tooth extraction, don't mind that so much but the recovery is a bummer.

Good Mornin', Folks.
64° this morning, the sun is lighting the tops of the tall pines west of the house. I slept in a bit this morning. Miss Joy woke me up and asked if I had heard the mini-dachsund barking? She said he spotted 4 deer in the garden and scared them off. We haven't checked to see what they were having for breakfast. They have already destroyed all of the Zipper Cream pea plants. On the bright side, we aren't plagued with wild hogs or bears at this time. Farmer's market here we come.
Yesterday was a good day, church was good as was the afternoon nap.
Mowing will probably be my task for today.
Watching the morning news is almost depressing, there is so much evil being exposed and expressed around our great land.
Y'all have a good day, stay safe and be vigilant!
