A true folk poet. A troubled but beautiful soul pouring his heart out…………..

I was shocked to learn of the passing yesterday of one of my favorites. R.I.P. Nanci, you wrote some great songs.

No one has posted a “folkie” in a while so I’ll wake up this old thread. ::tu::

Over a year since the last post here - I guess not many fans of folk music? ::shrug:: Heres one of my favorites, by a much under appreciated and low profile artist, Willis Alan Ramsey. Like most folk songs you gotta listen to the words to appreciate it. This one’s pretty funny.

I’ve heard that song before but had no idea it was him.

His most popular song played around here(his hit was sang by Captain and Tennille Muskrat Love)and a favorite song of mine is Northeast Texas Women. Ed Burleson did a decent cover of it too but it doesn’t have the soul of the original.

“Northeast Texas Women” has always been a favorite of mine. I think maybe unless you’re a Texan, and know the places mentioned (for example most outside of Texas don’t know the history of LaGrange and the “Chicken Ranch”) it doesn’t have quite the same meaning. But it’s the song Willis is probably best known for. “Them Dallas women standing up, beat the others lying’ down”.

Never cared much for Captain and Tennille’s Muskrat Love, but I’m sure Willis liked to getting the royalties!
