Blade Nail Nicks and Long Pulls – Old and New

Mel, my purpose in posting those was to show that the same pattern knife will sometimes have a different nick/pull design. I guess I should have stated that.

Jerry - I was not complaining! Now that you mention it, I guess the different nicks on the same pattern is a good point to make.

I didn't think you were. The printed word is such a tough medium in which to have a conversation.

Joe, you just kicked my brain into gear. I didn't think I had a knife with the acorn shield and you caused me to notice the AG Russell does (have an acorn shield).

Greg - "not many" - I would say you had more than just a few my friend .. Nice long pulls and a few matchstrikers as well - Curious but in the 4th pic down what is the maker on that sweet gunstock jack with the nice heavy blade & matchstriker pull? Those 2 Case knives in the 5th pic - that is the deepest & widest long pull I've seen yet on the first Case shown... and the other is a unique pattern I have never seen (what do they call that pattern?) with an interesting pull that looks to be part on blade and part way down into the tang area - thanks for sharing those

Lee the forth one down is a Battle Axe Cutlery Co gunstock jack. The two Cases are 1972 Sharktooth lockbackpattern 7197 L SSP and a 1976 31SAB

More accurately an inactive Doc accumulator. I got sidetracked on the Camillus 72s but still like my Doc's. I just don't add to the pile anymore, which doesn't mean I won't in the future.

Cool Greg - that bottom Case Cheetah has one heck of a deep wide nail nick - you can probably get your whole finger tip in that one!!!

Yeah Lee. The bone one has more of an SAB type blade than the stag example. That may be the difference.

I think it is interesting to see the same knife pattern from the same maker, showing how they varied the pulls. That is really cool.

Here is one (I don't own but wish I did) that I think is very well done. A simple long pull, but it fits the blade really well and really adds to the look of the knife. This is a 2012 ivory handled cotton sampler by Tuna Valley (made by Great Eastern). The picture is from Frank's Classics website.

Also, forgot to mention. I remember seeing a knife some time ago that had a nail pull on both sides of the blade. I can't remember if I saw it here, or elsewhere on the internet, but it definitely sticks in my mind. Does anyone remember seeing that knife?

That is no doubt one of my favorite knives of all Joe and with pulls on both sides ... It has been since the time you first posted it ... can't remember but the photos make it appear to be a congress whittler??

Yes I do believe that was the one. For some reason I was thinking it had nail nicks on both sides, not long pulls. But I definitely remember the yellow handles. Very nice.

This is a knife ol' Sporty had for sale on theBay yesterday that I thought for sure was a "Frankenknife." I get home, open Sargent's 2nd Ed., look for a Remington R6393 and there she is on Page 365. The first blood groove Saber long pull I've noticed.
