Back around 1984-85 my wife and I rode my new Gold Wing to Canada and a way's west along Lake Superior. Went to the Grand Hotel. It is well worth the $10. We chose to buy the lunch which gave us the free admission. Huge dinning room with Porta Ricans doin the serving and a lady playing the harp. I have heard that Somewhere in Time affected the flow of people. We have friends that make a annual trip to the hotel and they have a strict rule that in the evening men wear suites and the ladies wear their finest.

As to incidents with tractors.....

Had a cousin over in St. Clair County, East of Birmingham, was working one of his fields years ago, 1960's.

He failed to return for dinner (the noon meal down here).

When they went to check on him, he had fallen off the tractor and had been run over by the Bush Hog.

There was never an explanation as to why or how that happened. Speculation, but no explanation.

My youngest brother was about 12-13 when he ran himself over with his own quad runner.
He hit a root while in a slide, flew off the side, the quad hit the tree, did a 180, and came back over him like a ricocheting bullet.
That was the only time in 58 years I have seen anyone run their self over.

In a different brush hog accident I know a fella that lost his leg.
They were cutting trails for hog hunting, One fella was on the ground watching when one of the 30"x4"x1/2" blade pins sheared. That blade shot thru the shroud, and took his leg below the shin in a split second.

Machinery looks friendly, and it is easy to get complacent but it is like an animal waiting to pounce you dead.

No pictures due to HIPPA and the gruesomeness of the accident,,,

We recently had a farmer get run over with a disc harrow due to multiple mistakes.

The farmer was underneath the tractor checking on a hydraulic leak that had been repaired earlier in the day. He had crawled under the tractor without telling anyone he was going to do so. His best friend crawled up in the cab, put her in gear and took off.

The farmer realized what was about to happen when the transmission clunked into gear, so he reached up and grabbed the tractor undercarriage, but couldn't hold on for long.

The tractor driver thought he heard something "weird" (the farmer yelling probably), so he stopped. When he leaned out the cab door, he heard yelling.

The farmer ended up with a punctured lung, several broken ribs and other long bones and had a calf muscle cut off and chewed up. He's still alive, has had several surgeries already, but is expected to live.

The mistakes made were::
- crawling under a running tractor without notifying all involved,
- failing to identify the location of all in the vicinity before moving a major piece of equipment
and
- starting to drive a tractor without doing a walk-around before getting in.

Had any one of the 3 mistakes been eliminated, the accident would not have happened.

I don't have Obama care or any other kind of health care. I suppose that could make things difficult.

Find, and keep the pennies from your avatar buddy. You're gonna need them.

In fact I would take that down all together... It is taxable!

Anybody with a good internal compass should know that photo was taken facing East.

Wow. It's crazy how much damage an animal can do to a vehicle.

Deer accidents here is a real problem. Auto Insurance company's hate them. They have upped the season and limits. $3,000 not unusual now with all the plastic front ends. When I lived in central Illinois Pheasants came through windshields.

Out past catoosa oklahoma going east on 412 there always seems to be a hit deer or two on the side of the road. A year or two ago a semi hit a cow out that way, it was a mess on both sides. I remember years ago my dad and I were driving out somewhere in the boonies and a hawk came within a few feet of the windshield, it was a close shave.

Well there's finally some leaves around here, it was much too windy yesterday to rake them.

For transportation around Carrabelle, I ride modified 50cc race scooters. By modified I mean 87mph scooters. 90 lbs wet, and fast as greased lightening.
Two years ago I was riding on Hwy 98 along the coast when a deer shot out from the water side of the Hwy.
I braked hard, and dove into where the deer was, thinking that it will be past that spot by the time I get there. That animal jumped straight up rather than run, and I blew right under it at about 40mph.
I could smell that deer as I passed.

The other problem we have here is Bears. Black Bears live in tiny patches of land, and at this time of year they move around looking for food. More bears get hit by cars here than deer.
It's pretty sad actually because the folks here are constantly complaining, and trying to catch/relocate them but they ALWAYS come back.
IMHO the bears were here first, and the people should either deal with that as a fact or move.

For some odd reason I'm drawn to tobacco stuff. I think it's the graphics on the labels. I have a little collection and a couple of Remington crossover items.

Have you ever been in a tobacco barn during curing?
OMG that smell is heavenly!

I lived next door to a tobacco farm in Virginia as a kid, and I can still smell that scent in the air. Happy days... ::nod::
