Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
Anyone remember a baseball broadcaster named Jim Simpson from the 1960s onward? He broadcast many different sports, but in my opinion was the best baseball play by play announcer there was. I remember him working for NBC and the early days at ESPN. There was none better.

I liked Joe Tate and Herb Score in the 70's when I lived near Cleveland, Oh. I could pick up Ernie Harwell out of Detroit as well.

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
Actually I think most play by play broadcasters do an acceptable job. But there are some that do not. The really poor ones IMO are the ones that have to talk about what THEY had for lunch or about something that happened at the hotel last night, and then keep referring to things not part of the game.

Congratulations John. What a thoughtful gift for a baseball fanatic.
Baseball from noon til midnight today. It's opening day for all teams today with fans in the stands to lend that something special flavor to all the games.

I can't get the Marque network, so I'm listening to the game on the radio. Which is ok with me. I love listening to Pat Hughes.

Not what they or their fans had in mind, the Cubs had only 2 hits and gave up 11 walks on opening day.

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
A friend who is a season ticket holder called and offered me tickets to the Rangers home opener (he couldn’t get off work), so my son and I went yesterday. Beautiful day at the ballpark, first time I’ve been to the new stadium when there was a game. The roof was open, temperatures mid-70s.
The stadium was near-full, a few scattered empty seats here and there but they called it a sell out crowd. Not wanting to turn this into a political discussion but most folks were wearing masks when walking around on the concourse or waiting in line for concessions. And when just sitting in their seats watching the game while not eating or drinking, but who does that? Most fans had a beer or soft drink and a hot dog, brat, or nachos at their seats so a lot of the time weren’t wearing masks.
The Rangers lost (their pitching sucks) - there’s going to be a lot of that this year. But it was good to get out to a game. The new stadium is a great place to watch a game. Even though aesthetically it looks from the outside more like a huge airplane hanger! They’re already calling it “The Shed”.

Very clever list. My grandfather was never a major leaguer, but he was a lifelong baseball fan, and his nickname as a youth player was "Peanuts!"

Perfect day for beisbol here at Nats Park. Too bad they gave up 5 runs in the Second right before we got here. Well, still 3 innings to pull it out, and another game with The Stras on the mound.
