Pretty sure it was the Cubs Floyd. They had a big "C" on their uniform.

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
Just heard the great Hall of Famer Lou Brock has died at age 81. Many enjoyable times watching him play - I can still remember the day I heard the Cardinals had traded Ernie Broglio, who had been a darn good pitcher, to the Cubs for a little known (unheard of to me) youngster named Lou Brock. I thought they must be crazy - little did I know!

Tom Seaver and now Lou Brock. That amazed me until I read the list of MLB players who have died so far this year. There's a ton of them. Most I don't recognize.

There is an upside to the shortened season. It appears that the damn Yankees won't make the playoffs this year.

They're in different brackets, would not play each other until the NL finals assuming both won each series until they get there.

OK, esplaine these brackets to me Lucy. From what I've seen, it appears to me that the traditional top team in each division plus two wild cards for each league is out the window this year. True? Not true?Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 12:57 pmThey're in different brackets, would not play each other until the NL finals assuming both won each series until they get there.

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
Yes it is different this year because they've added two more teams (those having the best records) into the wild card teams. But in the bracket as pictured the Cubs play the Phillies in their first series. Then the winner plays the winner of Colorado vs Atlanta. That's the "bottom half" of the bracket. The winner of the bottom half plays the winner of the top half. The Cardinals are in the top half so in that scenario the Cardinals and Cubs can only play each other in the NL finals.jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 1:13 pmOK, esplaine these brackets to me Lucy. Is anyone else having trouble getting into baseball this year? No preseason to get everybody in the mood and excited about it and now no fans in the stands , just cardboard cutouts and the soundtrack of crowd noises from who knows where?
It doesn't seem like baseball to me, just a TV show about baseball.

I LOVE baseball, but I haven't watched a single inning this year.
To many stupid changes for this year. I posted them here before.
I believe instead of adding more games to the playoffs they should play more regular season games.
Oh well, if the Cubs make the playoffs I might be inclined to watch.
On a side note. It looks like the NFL is completely ruined for me.

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
I have watched a few innings of the Mariners. It looks like Kyle Seager should have a really good year if he keeps hitting like he is but I am really not watching games even when my wife has them on and is watching them. I may stop and watch a couple of at-bats on my way out to the shop, or maybe not.
I have just found that there are things I would rather do and watch cardboard cutouts pretending to cheer.
One of the things that really bothered me was that Dr. Fouchi was able to go to and set with two friends and not even wear his mask. It really frosted my cookies!
I'm right there with you on the NFL. I have seen Maybe 3 games since they started kneeling and that's only because I was at someone else's house who was watching the game. And now with this strike, or talk thereof I'm really over football. Not even any college football this year in the Pac-12 so this will be a totally football-less year for me!

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
As you mention, the first and second place teams in each division will be in and the two remaining teams "with the best records" as wild cards. It looks like those last two will be .500 teams, or may even have losing records.Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 2:51 pmYes it is different this year because they've added two more teams (those having the best records) into the wild card teams. From what I've seen, it appears to me that the traditional top team in each division plus two wild cards for each league is out the window this year. True? Not true?Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 12:57 pm
They're in different brackets, would not play each other until the NL finals assuming both won each series until they get there.

Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 12-0 today and Cubs pitcher Alec Mills threw a No Hitter. One of only 16 no hitters by Cubs pitchers, EVER.

Congratulations Jerry, on the no-hitter. They’re fun to watch, even though they don’t happen often.

It's that last 2 or 3 innings that are the nail biters. If you're not paying really close attention, you don't realize what's going on until about midway through the game.

Cubs beat Cleveland last night. 5-5 tie from the 8th on. Indians loaded the bases in the 9th and Cubs win when Cleveland pitcher hit the batter.
I saw that and all of the play-off games will be played at neutral parks with no days off.

Jerry, David and all you other Cubs fans, this is for you. https://www.mlb.com/news/cubs-2020-postseason-fan-quiz
Y’all should ace it - I got 8 out of 10 right and I don’t even follow the Cubs more than casually.

Since there aren't fans in the stands, how did they decide on these venues? Based on weather?

Re: Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?
Since I retired, I have had the MLB season pass that I stream thru a Roku Ultra to see 14 MLB games every day. I can see all the games played except the team that MLB blacks out as the local team, in my case it is the Minnesota Twins as they are physically the closest MLB team. So I watch basically all teams in both leagues play, and I get to see the names of all the players at the major league level. Therefore, I think it is time for a declaration of the "2020 MLB All Knife Team" for publication here on AAPK. I will list the names I have chosen from MLB players who have been on a major league roster during the 2020 season.Their names will have some connection to terminology that we use here on AAPK on a daily basis. Here are my selections:
Alex Wood, LA Dodgers
Brandon Workman, Philadelphia Phillies
Tommy Hunter, Philadelphia Phillies
Jeff Springs, Boston Red Sox
Marcus Walden, Boston Red Sox
Sterling Sharp, Washington Nationals
Justin Steele, Chicago Cubs
Justus Sheffield, Seattle Mariners
And lastly
Scott Barlow, Kansas City Royals
Feel free to add your own choices to this most illustrious list of MLB players with knife like names.
