I picked up this lantern today because I thought it was cool and the price was right. I don't know anything about them I just liked it

This is my latest 5kw power supply; that runs my house for almost free.
12 solar panels on the roof charge the battery at 90 amps, while we have sun (Australia has sun most days of the year!)
When there is no sun, for 3 or 4 days; we then need to use a small 2kw Honda generator, for about 1 hour. ($5 weekly for gas)
I made a smaller one last year with smaller batterys. (Cost was still over $2500 for the batterys alone)
This one has six 2 volt 1000AH batteries, and they cost about $6500 for the six. And made in Germany.
The batteries are 33 inches high and weigh 1873.90 Lbs each unit. (Total weigh for the six batteries 11243.40 Lbs)

Two TV’s (32") – A Microwave and Big Refrigerator.
I use LPG for hot-water (shower etc) and cooking (Full stove and oven).
I have more power then I need.
I use an 8kw generater for welding from time to time.

So what's the life expectancy on those batteries? Are you channeling extra juice back into the national grid? What rate do you pay per kilowatt hour if you buy from the grid? It's all very interesting.
