Just visited the National Christmas Tree, including some shots of the state trees you guys might like. Forgot to get Illinois for Jerry. The nativity scene is slightly smaller than life-size.

We went with table top trees this year. There are another half dozen trees on the credenza behind the photographer and therefore not included in the photo.

Well, here we are for another holiday season already. Luna approves of this year's Christmas Junction set-up. Happy holiday!

Nice, John, especially like the Santa Fe locos! I enlarged the pic to study the tree and see if you had knife related ornaments. Didn't see that, but saw a pic of you 'n Brenda, and the 2019 Nationals ornament1967redrider wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 2:50 pm Well, here we are for another holiday season already. Re: Let the decorating begin!
I've got my Creche positioned with accessories quite similar to last year, OK, and the year before but it's a pleasure to put together and I'm the only one who will enjoy it so I'll put it together again next year, God willing.
Actually, my daughter and her family will see it too as they did last year.

Sittin' here readin' the forum, we'll share our little Christmas tree with y'all. It's a 7' flat sided artificial tree, sits tight against the wall, easy for old folks to handle! Used to be a big deal, a 12 foot natural tree. move everything in the living room, keep that sucker watered, keep sweeping the falling needles, etc...all for the children who helped decorate. They're decorating their own trees these days. Things do change.

That is a very nice tree Phil. Your right the ones that had so much fun decorating the tree for mom and dad have moved on and are now the mom and dad's. Merry Christmas!

Re: Let the decorating begin!
We don’t do a lot of decorating. With my daughter the freshly minted Airman making it home yesterday we had to do a bit of decorating. My favorite decoration is more the story than the Coke a Cola Santa.
My father the knife collector was the youngest of three children. He was born in 1936 when my Grandmother was 40 years old. The oldest was my Aunt Virg born 1920 and passed a month shy of 101. My and had her sanity right up until she passed.
My family had a family store in Elgin Il. I think the story goes it was owned by my grandfather and one of his brother in law’s. Anyway my Aunt received the Santa in the picture while working at the store on the back of the picture it says Dec 1957. The picture was taken at the house they built and lived in until My uncle passed at age 96. I said something about it and she gave me the Santa and a copy of the picture. Then finally I got the original picture. The Santa had too spend a couple of years in my garage to air out. They had money but they lived like they had none. That whole growing up in the depression. The one thing it allowed was for us to have visiting Angels come in twice a day for the last two years of her life.

Some very nice and tasteful displays shown here. In our neighborhood is what I consider one of the tackiest outdoor displays ever. It consists of a Nativity scene, and overlooking the Manger on one end is Santa Claus, and on the other end is an inflatable dinosaur wearing a Santa hat.
