So I put oil on the joint and worked it open 2 times and I heard a snap and the center pin on the pile side had cracked the bone, see picture. Anyone want to tell me why that would happen? Was it pinned too tightly or is the blade just a bit to long when it pivots against the backspring?
The second is a Henckels. I bought it to resell but after I see how perfect that stag is, I am inclined to keep it. It’s a beauty.
I love that one! I saw it in the email, but couldn't exactly afford it at present. My guess is--typical of Bear and Sons, there's issues. At least you didn't get one that could get you injured. I have had two that were unsafe and dangerous with poor locking mechanisms. One failed the first time I used it, cutting my finger. The second never worked all the time. Ended up spending the better part of an hour adjusting the liner lock tab with an old sharpening stone to get it to lock. The blade wasn't very sharp (resharpened it myself), and the gut hook was a butter knife. An identical one, bought along with my example, fell apart on a buddy of mine.
