I have been picking through this thread and I have come to the conclusion that some of you folks have a problem....... I, on the other hand, only have one Barlow for each hand.

Wow these Prime Stag 2 Blade Barlows are in at Red Hills Cutlery. Beautiful but a a bit pricey. They are killing me with all these Barlows this year, so many nice ones.

Hey that Sawcut bone on the Tested era is some of the best I've ever seen JohnR. Beautiful hues, great uneven shape, and grooves. Love that one. Great show.

Got these two today. The first one was an impulse purchase. It’s made by Bear and Red Hill Cutlery had it. Only 25 made. I really like it but, it opened very tight. So I put oil on the joint and worked it open 2 times and I heard a snap and the center pin on the pile side had cracked the bone, see picture. Anyone want to tell me why that would happen? Was it pinned too tightly or is the blade just a bit to long when it pivots against the backspring?
The second is a Henckels. I bought it to resell but after I see how perfect that stag is, I am inclined to keep it. It’s a beauty.

Really nice stag on that Henkles Mark. Congrats. Will you be returning the Bear? Or at least sending the photo to Red Hill and Bear? I wonder if the bone had become excessively dry, possibly exposed to heat.

I love that one! I saw it in the email, but couldn't exactly afford it at present. My guess is--typical of Bear and Sons, there's issues. At least you didn't get one that could get you injured. I have had two that were unsafe and dangerous with poor locking mechanisms. One failed the first time I used it, cutting my finger. The second never worked all the time. Ended up spending the better part of an hour adjusting the liner lock tab with an old sharpening stone to get it to lock. The blade wasn't very sharp (resharpened it myself), and the gut hook was a butter knife. An identical one, bought along with my example, fell apart on a buddy of mine.

I called Red Hill and they are sending a replacement. She said that she would have someone that knows about knives check it before they send it. I hope I don’t have to send that one back also. It had a too tight feel when I opened it. Not like it needed oil but it felt like they just pinned it too tight. I had sworn off of Bear due to quality issues, but this one caught my eye. I hope I’m not sorry.


Cody, I read a lot about the quality issues from Bear. My experience with their Barlow’s has been pretty good. In fact it’s probably the best knife they make. I love the way their Barlow’s look and I haven’t had any issues with their Barlow’s before. Hope this is just a one off.

That is absolutely gorgeous. I have never seen this Barlow by CS. Now I will be hunting for one of these.

Just an update on this Bear Halloween Barlow. Got this replacement today, that was fast. Red Hill does have great service. This one does not feel pinched tight. It opens and closes just fine and is has no cracks. I really like this one. Bear does do a great job on Barlow’s and I have sold them and made money on them instead of losing too.

Love that pale Jade, absolutely beautiful. Pale Jade on a Barlow, what else could anybody ask for? CS does a great job with anything they get involved with. My new mission is to get me one of those!
