We had a family birthday party for my neice at the farm last night, I fired up the Polar Express for the kids. I just picked up this rattler tender so I couldn't wait to test it out. Pretty ingenious design on the part of Lionel. The 2055 Hudson 4-6-4 has the smoke feature and I have a whistle train station but haven't had the time to hook it up yet.
Spent the better part of yesterday cleaning and greasing up the turn-outs so they actually work remotely and change automatically instead of causing derailments. CRC contact cleaner and lithium grease did the job.

I love old paint schemes, and they are what help retain our history.

John, I am an Erie fan, so when you first verbalized your plans for this loco I just wasn't so sure I liked the idea. However, upon seeing the finished product, I think it looks awesome! Great job!

Just saw some of the classic Canadian cylindrical grain cars as part of a CN grain train. I rarely see these in my area, but occasionally since CN took over IC. My understanding is that these were originally supplied in the 1970s by the Canadian government. This was called the "Coke can" paint scheme and features a wheat sheaf in addition to the name.

Good stuff, David. That loco has been around! Do you ever type in a loco # and look at the pictures that pop up on RR picture archives? It is pretty cool to see where all they have been.

There are still some small towns with active rails running through them. But I bet those old iron horses really pounded the pavement.
