The boss and I have named this ole boy "old lonesome Tom," he comes by everyday for a ration of corn. He's got a fine beard on him, dang near drags the ground when he's walking normally.

Good pics, BH! Funny, we are not all that far apart, but I can tell that your foliage is ahead of that around here.

Ike it don't take many miles or elevation changes to make a difference, I live on the highland rim and we are always a week or so behind the Nashville area.That's a old umbrella tree or bush if you prefer that the birds are in, they and the Bradford pears leave out before anything else around here. Red maples have budded out rwo or three times but they always get bit back, it won't be long now though till everything will be in it zenith.

I'm finally seeing something besides sparrows, sorry no pics
I've had chickadees, nuthatches, house finches, juncos, downy woodpeckers, robins, yellow wing blackbirds. And a couple I'd rather not see, grackles and starlings.
Too cold here yet for the hummers or orioles.
The yellow wing blackbirds were a bit of a surprise, only other time I'd seen them was on a nature trail thru some wetlands. But I am only a block from a small lake but in town.

Well, I was just going by what he looked like. After some research seems the red-wing blackbirds sometimes show little if any red feathers.
Had just a narrow yellow band. My lesson for today!

Ah, ok. They can be a nuisance but they are handsome birds.
There actually are Yellow Winged Blackbirds, which I just learned after your post. They live in South America and I thought some had maybe been released into Iowa. I also knew that there are Yellow Headed Blackbirds West of me but wasn't sure of their range, seems like I saw some in Kansas years ago not sure if they are any further East.

I saw a large flock of Yellow-Headed Blackbirds in Arizona. Very impressive.

The loquats on my trees are getting ripe now. Looks like I might not get a lot of them! Actually, while I do eat loquats, they are not one of my favorite fruits. So I am happy to see the birds enjoying them.

I had been waiting for some "Mel Photos", and those are awesome. I had no idea what a Loquat was, but I definitely know the sleek look of Waxwings. Those are beautiful shots!

Warblers and others are starting to arrive in my area. Yellow Rumped are here en masse, I saw a flock of at least 50+ a few days ago. I saw Black and White Warblers yesterday.

Thanks, Ike, QS, and Dogleg. Spring is really here along the Gulf Coast. A few days ago a Great Crested Flycatcher was calling: when they arrive the migration is really moving.
