What is the best rust remover for this old gleam?

Some folks use vinegar for rust removal.
What a neat looking fleam. How does it even work?
It looks like it has articulating parts.

I use Naval Jelly. Best thing I've ever found and doesn't mar the original metal.

The forked piece can be adjusted to how deep you want to cut in the vein by the adjustment screw. The curved piece can be pulled back to set the spring, and the lever sets the spring off. Use your imagination when you press that loaded spring and it almost hurts. Stamping on the brass is WIEGAND a&d SNOWDEN.

Naval jelly is not suitable for brass unless they have changed the formula. On the bottle i have states so on the back, but i have had it for a while. ::tu::
