Well, I-Man. You got me to thinking, so I looked at my 1972 6214 in my collection. Guess what. The secondary blade spring is proud of the frame!
Not a ton mind you, but definitely enough that you feel it and notice it. Maybe they had a problem with their 14 finisher at Case back in the day! Here are a couple of pics...

Interesting. Maybe it's the patten, but I've had a lot of other Case patterns and never this problem. Also mine seems to protrude nearly double what yours did. And for Case to grind that spring down seems to me like it would then sit sunk in or the opposite of proud when blade is closed. I don't want it that way either really. Like them flush. And I see this pattern so rarely come up and even less often with scales I really like, I may just keep it and live with it. Maybe sand down the points of the spring and let it be. Thanks for the comments though, appreciate that.

Would not recommend grinding the backsprings. It could affect the walk n talk. That's one way to remedy an overly stiff opener is to glaze the backsprings a little more to thin them and ease the opening pull. Does not take much.

Not an oldie, but IMO a goodie. I snagged a 2019 Case 61009 single blade Barlow in Rogers Corn Cob jigging a couple of weeks ago, and it’s gotten pocket time every day since then. Pinched bolsters, fit & finish is great, super sharp factory edge, perfect walk & talk, and I love the blue bone. I REALLY like how thin it is; practically imperceptible weight & profile in jeans or in the shorts of this Florida boy.

I love Barlows in general (have developed quite the “addiction” to searching out & restoring bargain vintage bone/saw cut bone Barlow knives over the last year, when I find one), and this modern version will get a lot of use by me until someday I pass it down to my son. Great knife & Case did a really nice job with these.

Love it! Great Canoe there & condition looks wonderful. It’s a great pattern & I agree, I have a couple of modern Case Canoes & they make for a great EDC. Now you have me thinking about trying to find one made during the period of my birth year <sigh>. Enjoy!

Flea Market find from yesterday here in Florida: 1970 C61050SAB “Coke Bottle” hunter. This thing is massive (about 5.5 inches closed, 9 1/2” fully open), but pretty thin and not too heavy, so still carries well in the pocket. Might be a good candidate for a pancake belt sheath.

Normal flea market experience (knives here and there but mostly new & old junk or “high retail” priced items), but this one was reasonably priced, good walk & talk, not a lot of wear (just 50 years of age patina), and should restore nicely. Before/After will be cool comparison when I have some weekend downtime to focus on it.

Always fun to hunt vintage Case knives out in “the wild”!

Not a judgemental question but why "clean it up"? I guess it's all in the eye of the beer holder but it looks fine to me. In my estimation it has weathered the years very well and came out on this end of the stick in excellent condition.

Not to be a hypocrite, In my early years I would "clean them up" & try to make them look like new (I liked then and still, like shiny) but I don't do that anymore. Just lazy I guess. Shuttin' up now boss. Carry on.

Congratulations, that's a fine old knife! I have one that is of the '65-'69 era that my wife gave me for Christmas in 1966. It's been back to Case one time for a repair on the "hinge pin". Got it back and it looked like a new knife! I love these old big folding hunters.

I already had a Large 5 inch Daddy Barlow Case XX era, so I saw Steve (aka: Knifeaholic) had this one, and had to have it. Got it in the mail yesterday. A Case XX 62009-1/2 with the sawcut Red bone handles. Blades are full, no wobble, strong half stops, and Excellent Snap on both blades. Gotta love the handles.
