Re: SK...................help!
It wasn't as early as the L and C exposition (bad example). I'm thinking turn of the century 1900 maybe slightly earlier. I'll write Ed here in bit if we can't nail it.

It could be just about anything, I realize...
The first thing that popped into my old brain, that starts with an "A", was Robert Peary's Arctic Expedition ? 1909, I believe ?
Just a WAG,
JR

Re: SK...................help!
Interesting knife... the company is actually J (John) Wilson even thought that looks like an I. Wilson's knives were very popular in the US in the 1800s. There is one with a similar blade shape but different handle style called a 'Provision Knife' in a 1919 ad in Tweedale's book.

Adirondack, Appalachian, Allegheny.............................I thought the knife was really cool. Look at the paper roll next to it, the knife must be 16" long.
Piss.............................I guess it's a phone call.

Re: SK...................help!
OK, here's the scoop
Two large butcher style knives from Sheffield went with John James Audubon on an exposition for the Smithsonian Institute in the late 1800 hundreds. This knife is thought to be one of them.

Re: SK...................help!
Interesting background. Here is an ad from early 1900s. The company was formed by Thomas Wilson circa 1750. His son John ran it until his death in 1851. The name and trademark pepper corn and diamond date back to the late 1700s or early 1800s. The company's knives were reknowned for their quality and were popular in the US during the 1800s and early 1900s.gmusic wrote:OK, here's the scoop

Re: SK...................help!
Great poster/ad. Thanks so much for your effort SK!
The knife really resembles the top one in the line-up. Looks as if someone may have added the "birds beak" pommel.
I'll have to pass the information on to Ed.
Thanks again!
