Sign of the times

Post by OLDE CUTLER »

I was at the big Sioux Falls gunshow today. 1200 tables of stuff to look at and buy. There were 2 real big knife dealers set up there. One had 10 tables covered with knives. Not a single American made one among the hundreds on display. They were all Chicom, but none had any markings on them. The one pictured below had 5 tables of knives by Stan Packy. Not a one had anything tang stamped on them. Big crowd of people around each of them. There were a couple of more dealers that had some new Case knives, but their prices were so high it appeared they were afraid to sell them.

They wouldn't be sellin' them if people weren't buying them. I went to a 700 table gun show in PA today and didn't see any of those things.

Stan is probably the most prolific knife maker in history, for how cheap they sell.

But you are out there in Case country. We dont have anything like that out here. Just dealers who assume we just want to buy "CHEAP".

Pretty much the same here. There’s always somebody at a show with a table full of Stan packys claiming there hand made by them ::facepalm::

Old Cutler: I feel your pain. It's true that folks in less populated areas don't enjoy the availability we have elsewhere and are stuck with e-bay and it's outrageous prices. Not to rub it in, but I buy, on average, two old knives every week. They're not all Challenge or Winchester but certainly nice collectible pieces. It's nice to be able to walk right past those import dealers tables and not even look down. Just countin' my blessings. J.O'.'
