Does anyone recognize this knife?

Post by Bert »

The box of knives in the photo are in an upcoming estate sale. Does anyone recognize the brass handled folder in the middle? It reminds me of early Gerbers just not sure. I'd like to know going in what it is. AND believe me I recognize the Geo. Schrade auto next to it! I'm hoping to be able to snag a couple of these.
These look like a good catch.

Thanks in advance!

I believe it is a Chinese import. Not near the quality of a Gerber knife. The big Schrade auto looks like it could be a good one.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

If I was the next guy, I’d buy the marlinspike knife on the right. The far left one looks Colonial to me.

The brass handled knife in the middle reminds me of an Olsen. Small company, out of Howard City, Michigan but out of business now. They mostly did fixed blades but had some folders that they purchased from a contract manufacturer in Germany I believe.

All good comments, I would hope the brass lock back will turn out to be an Olsen, which is a new one to me. Wouldn’t surprise me if it was an import, but the retired Navy gent these belonged to might have shied away from imports, unless he picked it up in some foreign port of call. Hope to find out, sorry to say but the next guy will probably find the marlin spike missing in action along with the whole box! :D Around here you gotta get up early to make it anywhere near the front of the line at these sales. They have been a good source, but competitive.
The knowledge gained here never ceases to amaze!
Thanks all,
Bert

Wayne,
That's it, says CHINA on it, you nailed it. Is it well made? Looks hefty.
Thanks for posting the photo !

Better made than many of the older Chinese made lockbacks but not great. Mostly they get points for style.
