Here are 2 that have less common locking mechanisms. The first 3 pics are an A.G. Russell folding hunter with a bolster lock. The last picture is a Weidmannsheil jack with an internal locking mechanism that requires one to push down on the pen blade (in the closed position) to unlock the primary blade.

I have never seen such creatures! Is it possible to photograph the mechanism on the Weidmannsheil? Or is it hidden too deep inside? I’d like to see how that works!

Steamboat Willie, I tried my best, but this is the best picture I could get. There is hole in the center liner and the locking bar/lever passes through the hole. The raised up lower part that you can see clearly is what the ricasso of the pen presses on to release the locked blade. The part that's hard to see is the other end of the locking bar on the other side of the center liner that locks into the tang on the primary blade. The pressure from the backsprings on the other side of the locking bar is what forces the raised part of the locking bar into the notch on the tang of the primary blade and locks it as soon as you open the blade. Quite an ingenious mechanism! When I got this knife, I couldn't sleep until I figured out how it worked! Just how I'm wired.

Shame, shame, shame on all who posted bolster locks! Since I don’t have one I’ve spent the last hour looking at them and trying to find one.

Didn’t find an older available one in the AAPK stores. Finally decided on a new Buck Paradigm bolster lock assisted opener, newer version of the old Paradigm. Now I just have to wait for the delivery.

Thank you Willie. Although Queen made it, it’s stamped Schatt & Morgan. It’s a clone of an old, rare Remington 6816 humpback lockback whittler pattern. viewtopic.php?f=67&t=66686 Queen did a great job with what looks like a complicated pattern to make. I’ve never seen an original old Schatt & Morgan in that pattern so not sure if they made one like it. Someone here probably knows.

It’ll get some serious pocket time. I’ve been wanting to try one of the assisted openers but haven’t pulled the trigger until now. But the addition of a bolster lock pushed me over the edge, even though it’s a more modern version. It’s Herb’s fault. But he was aided by the other bolster lock posts too.

Thanks Marco! Glad I could be of service. I was interested to see what's out there. I really like those bolster locks. If I've ever seen one before then I had forgotten about them. Very cool knives. I'm also really enjoying seeing some locking HOK's and those locking Whittlers. Man! There are some pretty interesting knives being posted here!

It's great when everyone gets involved like this. I don't have too many knives that lock. I'd guess 5-6. I'll post the others as the thread moves along. Didn't want to run out of knives I can post on the very first page of the thread.

Here is a locking knife that locks similar to Herbs.
It's an old Wilbert stockman that wants to go to dust. 3 7/8" closed.
A through the liner locking mechanism.
On this knife the punch blade locks open; you have to press the main clip blade down closed to unlock the punch.
