Ah-ha...so that's where that one disappeared to. I had my eye on it but my knife budget is so deep in the hole right now that I could only cross my fingers and hope it was still available once I dug myself out. Congrats on a GREAT score. Beautiful knife, nice looking stag. Mark is a real pleasure to deal with. Nice score. ::tu::

Two sweet pick-ups, Marco. I lived in Spain for a couple of years back in the early 1980s and saw a lot of knives (navajas) like those. Wish I had bought a bunch to bring back home, but at the time I was only interested in automatics and all my Spanish switches were confiscated at the airport when I tried to smuggle them home in my shaving kit bag. I managed to get them out of Spain, but when I tried to convince the airport security at Kennedy International they were novelty letter openers, they were not convinced (obviously I am not a very clever smuggler). ::dang::

It would be Olean, NY. Union changed its name to KA-BAR later. I like collecting Tidioute, Brown Bros., Union, and Ka-bar, all the same company.

  You know me too well, jerryd. I think I must've inherited the nomadic wanderlust gene from my father who never stayed too long in any one place. For someone not in the military or a job that required any long-distance travel I seem to have gotten around quite a bit in my 57 years. And with the exception of my years in Spain, it was all by automobile or motorcycle road trips.

You know how sometimes people who almost died say that they "saw their life flash before their eyes," well, as I was listening to that song, I saw my life...or a travelogue of my life, anyway, laid out in song: as Johnny Cash was rattling off all those places, in my mind I kept thinking, I've been there, and there, and there, drove through there once but didn't stop, etc. Of all the places he mentions, I think I've been to (or passed through) approximately two thirds of them. Hilarious!! ::nod:: :D

Hey thanks ~Q~! ::handshake:: Navajas is what the seller described them as but I couldn't remember the name when I was posting them. I'm a fiend for automatics and it's a real shame you couldn't get your Spanish models back home with you, I'd have loved to see pictures of them. I did a similar smuggling attempt when I was in Mexico on my honeymoon with my ex, but I happened to get lucky and got them home with us. I wrapped them(3)in tin-foil and then white masking tape and put the package waaaaay off to one corner of my suitcase, and it worked cuz neither Mexican nor Canadian Customs spotted the package. Of course they were the absolute cheapest knives you could get your hands on, one being a 9" swivel-bolster stiletto and two being those Nato style OTF's, and they provided "click therapy" for me until the springs broke. Ya know, I think we should have met and been friends when we both were younger because the things you like and do are some of the exact things I too like and do, such as knives, warm weather, travelling, smuggling(LOL!), motorcycles, inherited nomadic wanderlust, etc.! I've not been overseas but I've been in or through most of the states, and every time I visit my spirit asks me, "why don't you live here?" And BTW, don't feel bad, I don't think there is such a thing as a "clever" smuggler! 8)

Just picked up this handsome Henckels pair. Bought one of the three bladed Barlows from Mark - Sharpnshineyknives last year, and gave it as a gift to a German born friend of mine. Well, I just had to have one for myself! Then I decided it needed a friend. I’m a hopeless addict. ::facepalm::

I’ve been eyeing a couple of those myself! For years I was happy just toting a single blade lock back. Now I try to have as many blades as practical on me!

Glad you like those Willie. Those Henckels are some of my favorite knives to collect, what a great job they did on those.

I got in a few here recently. A new Case Canoe with Brilliant Green Shamrock jigged bone handles. A Paragon skinner designed by George Herron and made in Seki Japan. Cocobolo handles, stainless steel blade and pins. The tang is tapered to give this more balance.
Last is a Henckels Whittler with premium stag handles.
