Looks like I screwed up again

Got this knife from michbou42 on Ebay. It was advertised as a Pal Cutlery knife with “This knife has flaws just like any used item. Used See pictures. You get what you see pictured” as the description. Nice Pal tang stamp as you can see, but the small blade has Remington on it, so apparently one of the blades has been replaced. Could it be a Remington where the large blade was replaced or a PAL where the small blade was replaced? Either way, I obviously don’t have a completely original knife. Am I blaming the seller - nope. My fault for not being more observant. The Remington could been seen in a photo of the whole knife, but certainly not a close-up like the Pal tang stamp. And because of that, I didn’t pick up on the Remington stamp.

I'm no Remington/Pal expert, but I suppose it's possible than when Pal bought Remington (1940,I believe) they had leftover blades stamped Remington. The would not have thrown them away, so maybe one got installed in your knife.

Hopefully one of the Remington experts will post shortly.

Yes that was the case. When Pal bought the Remington factory they did use up the blades that were left but as the other guys said I don't know enough about the knives to say whether or not it's original.

I would give it a “ “ because of the reason stated.
I’ve got a small bunch of Pals and find them very interesting.

I have owned a Pal with a Remington blade (wish I didn't sell it) and have seen a couple others,Mine was the same pattern as yours but with bone handles.Blade could have been added but most likely original,Great catch.

I’m always impressed with the brain power on this Forum! Because of your explanation, David, I started looking and just now ran across this: “ Transition knives are found with a number of different Remington tang stamps, but always have accompanying PAL BLADE CO. MADE IN THE USA stamped blade or blades.” So, it appears I shouldn’t be so disappointed. Pal bought Remington in 1939, so it’s more likely this is from those transition years in the early Forties. Thanks for all the reassurances, guys!

This would be called a transition knife. I’ve owned a few and in my experience they will be worth a bit more than a Pal only stamped knife. All good.

I once owned a Remington 2 blade jack knife and the big blade was etched PAL BLADE CO.

My impression of a "Moose" is like this Catt. It's a bigger, thicker, and heavier knife than the "REM-PAL" I posted. The Catt has a big clip and a big spear. Maybe different makers called them differently. I claim no authority on anything. I'm just a student in this hobby??? Mine is wired inside of a hardware sales case so I can't take a close up of it.
