Haven't heard of injuries. Sounds like "Remote Control" unit ran into number two pushing it into the third

A few weeks ago I would not have listed trains as a particular interest of mine. Now, I find this thread fascinating and check it out every day. I do have a younger sister who is fascinated by trains. I guess I am joining her to a degree. Thanks to all for the interesting photos.

Since 1979. We have lived adjacent to Ruffner Mountain.

On the other side is Irondale, Alabama and in Irondale are The Norris Yards, originally owned by Southern Railway, but now by Norfolk-Southern.

Norris Yards are featured prominently in Fanny Flagg’s Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe.

The real cafe was simply called The Irondale Cafe. Still there, but no longer owned by its original owners, nor serving a cafe type menu.

Where we live, we can hear the coupling and uncoupling of trains, the horns of the switch engines, etc, especially at night.

For many years, there was a Steam Shop there and up until just a few years ago, steam engines like the 611 came and went for service and repairs. In fact the coal tender that rides behind 611 was built from scratch there, as there were no original circa 1948 tenders for them still in existence. It’s a historical recreation.

Norfolk-Southern has moved the Steam Shop to Roanoke, Virginia, so we no longer are treated to the long, lonesome sound of a steam whistle coming to us over the crest of Ruffner Mountain.

Will miss them.

My Mom described a steam whistle as the most mournful sound on earth.

Can you give us some of the basic things that would have been on the menu at the Irondale Cafe.

Traveling a backroad, I interrupted this fellow enjoying his entree of a dead skunk. He didn't move far, just landed on this nearby rail. I kind of liked the look of a Vulture, perched on a lonely stretch of track, and I took his picture.
